This came out in the summer of 1963, twelve years before I was born. I watched it in the summer of 2020, because I had randomly decided to watch a bunch of Hayley Mills movies that summer. I want to say there is nothing summery nor magical about this movie. Frankly, it's kind of boring. Oh, and as for the category of my review... it's set in "rag" time, but that doesn't really matter to the plot, so I can't see calling it a period piece. And it's got some songs, but I really don't feel like it's a musical, either. So I'll just call it a family film, and move on.

Mills plays a girl named Nancy Carey, whose family I guess lost their fortune when her father died. So she and her brothers and mother move from Boston to a small town in Maine. Their new house belongs to a Thomas Hamilton, but he's away doing whatever it is that he does, and the house had been left in the care of his friend Osh Popham (Burl Ives), who spends a lot of time helping the Careys renovate the place, and whatnot. After awhile, the kids' cousin Julia comes to stay with them. And I don't know what else to say. The plot is just so slim and nothing very interesting ever happens.
