On December 18th, 1995, the brilliant Melissa and I decided that in response to the fabricated "Kwanzaa" we needed to invent a holiday in December also. Melissa was in 8th grade and I was in 10th grade at the time. On our way back from a high school orchestra concert, we decided that December 18th would forever be known as "Melissa Day". We can't remember all of the stipulations of Melissa Day, but we do remember that people are supposed to exchange gifts on Melissa Day, and they aren't allowed to be crappy gifts.
We feel that all walks of life can benefit from the celebration of Melissa Day. People from all different races, religions and ethnicities can share in the joy that is Melissa Day. Melissa said herself, "It is a universal holiday."
On December 18th, 2002 Melissa said her first ever recorded quote on this holiday: "Expensive poop looks the same as cheap poop!" I, Mandy, deem this to be the motto of Melissa Day henceforth. From now on, the proper way to greet someone on Melissa Day is by saying, "Expensive poop looks the same as cheap poop!"
I wish you and yours a joyous Melissa Day.
