Before I get into the actual stories, allow me to say a few words regarding race and the Deadlands Universe. In the 1876 of Deadlands, the Civil War still rages, though slavery ended years ago. Blacks have the vote, though women still do not, and the vast majority of Southerners are open-minded, tolerant, and non-racist, just like my friends and I are today. I say all of this because I don't want to deal with the hate mail pouring in after somebody reads the word "Negro" and assumes our characters and players are racist. That is simply not the case. Contrary to popular stereotyping, the South is not a bastion of racism populated entirely by hicks and members of the KKK. In the Deadlands Universe, no one refers to black people as African-American. However, those who would refer to black people in negative or downright infuriating terms are invariably the stuff our villains are made of. So, you've had your disclaimer, and I don't want to hear any oversensitive overreactors beating down my inbox door. It's a game. It's a game that, in the area of race relations at least, is a lot further along for the time period than we were. Keep that in mind as you read these campaign stories.
