Caid's review:

CRS: Stratosfear

Artist: KissMyAxe

A nice blue map on a rainy day here in T.O. *sigh* This is a promising map, a bit unrefined however, and with a slight few FPS issues, but that can always be remedied. The map is set in space, on a set of drifting (yet, oddly locked in their relative positions, will wonders never cease :)) platforms in space. Sound familiar? If you’ve ever played quake 3 it does. This map is like a little brother to a map called Plutonians for Q3 (a jolly romp through blued-out space, in itself) whelp, on with the review…

Eyecandy: This map has sufficient eye candy to keep one interested. The animated textures around the side of the main platform are very nice, but they do seem out of place, without more around the level. I’d also like to see KMA choose a different skybox or align the current one better, everything kind of cuts off at the 180o mark. The lampposts are also nice, if a bit chunky. Lastly, I’d like to see better use of detail textures on the floors. Don’t let all this negativity fool you though, this is an attractive map, I just happen to be a jerk

Performance: This map is, I’m sad to say a bit FPSy. When I bounced up from the lower side platforms t the middle one, my framerate got chopped into ¥ of it’s previous. Which is odd. This map has extremes of fps – from 60 to 7 in less than 3 seconds (hey, I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it!!!)

Gameplay: A DM simple map, it’s fun to jump around and try to mow people down while still getting your air control on, trying not to fall off. Only a few small issues detract from this map. The angled jump pads on the lower decks are confusing; they bounce you straight up, when you expect to be launched at an angle – no biggie though. And jumping form the high platform onto the wide middle ones will end in you falling off – missed by a decameter or two. Other than that’s it’s peachy

Weapon Placement: KMA needs to rethink his weapon placement and scheme. Something more appropriate to the whole space map thing.

Recommended Player Number: 2 – 4. 6 at the absolute most, 3 optimally

Final Word: KMA has the potential to be a great mapper, he only needs time to develop his skills and get a feel for what his audience wants.

OVERALL SCORE: 7/10
