THE LONG ANSWER: lunar eclipse is a level that really
makes you stop and look at the scenery the first time you
fire it up. set on the moon, you basically run around a large
open area with weapons and ammo in various location and beat
the crap out of each other. usually i have an aversion to
these rather simple types of maps, yet in this case, i was
into my third game before i even realised that this was just
a big open arena, so the author has done a damn fine job here.
gameplay is largely just running and finding a big weapon
and then find someone who's looking the other way and frag
them, but its still fun. you'll need at least 4 ppl to enjoy
this map tho, any less and it got old real fast.
THE SHORT ANSWER: go grab half a soccer team and play
it, it looks great, and plays great too.
HIGH POINT: clambering up the walls to the edge of
the map and shooting the 'energy shield'...it took me a few
seconds to work out what the mapper had done here, and its
a neat trick, it looks really cool...go try it.
LOW POINT: i couldnt find the sodding cannon anywhere.
its somewhere..mocking me...

Description:
This map is set inside a crater - there's not much cover but
the terrain itself is far from flat with many deep indentations
(which can provide cover for a man). There's a tower in the
center, which I assume generates the force field which allows
for Sam's survival in this circular arena. There are also
a few elevated areas and the occasional rock poking out. The
weapon placement is fairly balanced - but you won't find a
single piece of armor or health on this map - this is an ironman
contest - nor will you find any extra ammo. I recommend this
map be played with the 'unlimited ammo' option turned on as
otherwise the quantity of ammo available will be very low
and players will be running around with dual shofields and
knives - the flip side of the coin is that an unlimited-ammo
minigun seriously unbalances this map (and there is a minigun
on the map.)
Positive
comments: Suitable, in my opinion, for 4+ players, since
this map is quite large. The map's appearance is quite decent,
and if you're a sniper, then this is your promised land, since
you can see clear across the map from one of the elevated
areas found near the outside of the crater. The adjusted gravity
is interesting and fun to play around with, although jumping
could be an excercise in suicide here, due to people with
a minigun gunning you down as you're floating gracefully in
a leisurly arc. There are very few clipping problems and irrational
lights, and unless you look straight up, you're not likely
to notice that oftentimes a quarter of the sky will turn a
different color... But other than that, the lens flare looks
nice, as does the Earth.
Negative
comments: If the host doesn't use 'unlimited ammo', your
weapons will have a very short operational lifespan (such
as about 5 seconds). You'll spend most of your time running
around trying to grab more weapons for their ammo. In addition,
the shotgun family is nearly useless in this map, since it's
big and wide open and you're not likely to be able to get
close to the enemy. In addition, the 'edge of the map' is
easily reachable from several of the elevated areas at the
edge of the crater. You can look down into the endless void,
and then realize that you're not on the moon but on something
resembling "Dark City" (a floating city in space). Of course,
if you're not one to complain about inconsistencies in map
design, you'll say "screw clipping problems, I just want to
climb up to the top and snipe with the minigun!", climb up
to the top, and snipe.

- on a personal level, I don't like this map. It looks cool,
it's fairly well designed with few inconsistencies, but I
prefer maps with . Perhaps with a large amount of players
and low-lag server, I'd like it, but as it stands...
