Mount Ruapehu is the southernmost of the trio of peaks rising from the central North Island, and the highest mountain in the North Island (2797m). It is an active volcano which still sends steam, ash and mud out from time to time. It attracts thousands of skiers in the winter - Whakapapa on the northern side and Turoa on the southern side and to Tukino on the east side.

She also happens to be my favourite mountain in NZ......
