Halfway Round the World: From Japan to America and beyond

Okay…we all know where Pokemon and Team Rocket started out, on the other side of the world!…Well, I don’t think Japan is quite on the other side of the world, but what the heck.

It all started in Japan…it was a dark and stormy night…(well actually I have no idea what the time and weather were like, but who cares). Satoshi Tajiri was sat at home (or somewhere in the country), inventing what was to become…Pokémon! A worldwide phenomena of strange creatures (and people for that matter), and from this newly invented world (fondly nicknamed by me, the Pokéverse) were born Musashi, Kojiro and Nyase…also known as…Rocket Dan! They were the “villains”, in a series that pokéd the world (he he…get it? Pokéd…Okay, sorry that was crap) with a sharp and pointy stick. Or something to that effect. Anyway, as it travelled from country to country, it became bigger and bigger, getting translated into many strange and foreign languages, one of these being, American (English with a non-English twist).

Of course, America being…America, large and businessy, as well as the centre of the showbiz universe, they got dibs on the English dubbing, which is actually a fairly good thing as everyone has voices about right…although there is a little bit of inconsistency…maybe they all had strange voice lifts (I heard they’re doing those now) a few episodes in. James used to sound scarily like Tracey (*shudders*), Meowth used to sound strangely high pitched, and Jessie used to sound more American…now she seems confused…she usually sounds American, but then she has oddly British moments… Also the US censor system sucks…who cares if James has boobs in an episode, or they hold up a gun? Power rangers is worse! Bloomin’ ech! Anyway, although it would be nice to have some genuine Brits in the Pokemon world, a little bit of balderdash and chicanery wouldn’t go amiss, but we love our Team Rocket even so, just as they are…so we would like to thank Rachael Lillis, Eric Stuart and Adam Blauster, as the great voice actors that help to create Jessie, James and Meowth.

Anyway, you came here to discover things to do with the Japanese Pokemon world, right? Well, I don’t know, maybe you didn’t but you’re getting some anyway.

The Japanese Team Rocket Motto!

Musashi: Nandakanda to kikaretara

Kojiro: Kotaete ageru yo no nasake

Musashi: Sekai no hakai o fusegu tame

Kojiro: Sekai no heiwa o mamoru tame

Musashi: Ai to shinjitsu no aku o tsuranuku

Kojiro: RABURII CHAAMII na katakiyaku

Musashi: Musashi

Kojiro: Kojiro

Musashi: Ginga o kakeru ROCKETTO-dan no futari ni wa

Kojiro: HOWAITO HOORU. Shiroi ashita ga matteruze.

Nyase: Nya, nyaate na

You know if you listen to that on the recording in the middle of the Japanese Team Rocket Song…Jessie sounds like she’s going insane and becoming an axe murderer or something…I may get it up here at some point so you can here for yourselves.

If anyone did not get this already… Jessie’s Japanese name is Musashi, James is Kojiro and Meowth is Nyase. Apparently they were named after…I can’t remember, was it a famous Japanese outlaw duo, or just one person whose name they split up like on the American version with Jesse James? Oh I don’t know…it was something to that effect. I read it somewhere, but I can’t remember what site I read it on to check up on it.

Anyway…moving on, Japanese Team Rocket fans are exceedingly lucky because they get to see everything first, plus they get the CD drama…which I WANNA SEE!!!!!!! Sorry, momentary spaz there. But it looks so cool…it has Mondo, and all the stuff about the history of Team Rocket, Miyamoto and Madame Boss and so on… It’s so annoying when all the good stuff goes on in another country… not that I would live anywhere else but merry old England.

Another thing in the Team Rocket world/ Pokéverse that began in Japan was the Manga, written/ created by Toshihiro Ono. It seems quite different to the TV series, for an older generation I would say. But the best part of it is the ending…where James confesses his love to Jessie and they get married and have a baby!!! Now ain’t that sweet…in true rocketshipper style. Here are some neat little pics:

“Jessie, there’s something I’ve been trying to tell you for a while…”

“What is it, James?”

“I-I-I..”

“What?”

“I really love…”

“Go on…”

“Doughnuts.”

“WHAT?!?!?!”

(He he he…just kidding…)

“You.”

*Big snogs as the curtains fall.*

All I can say is…SEXY!!!

…and they lived happily ever after! Now this is what it’s all about, folks.

You do the hokey poké and you turn around! (I know that’s not how it goes but I changed it for purposes of amusement!) Is it me or has Jessie got Tomb Raider boobs here? Not being pervy, but it’s kind of hard to miss.

By the way, these pics have been saved over time off the internet and I have little clue of where they came from, but I have made sure that if it says clearly anywhere “do not take without permission” or something to that effect, I have not taken. However, if you are sure any of these pics are yours and you want credit and/or them off this site (although once again, no harm intended) then please mail me at free_tree@moose-mail.com and I will make sure it’s done.

Anyway, friends, Romans and countrymen, that’s all for now. At some point there should be more, but for now, this is it.
