Welcome, dear readers, to the Green Zone.
Now, what you have seen on this site so far has probably made you laugh or made you worry for your sanity and/ or lack thereof and generally been “light-hearted”. But here, my jolly friends, jollity comes to a bit of a slow down… you see, I’ve got some pretty bad news for you. The planet as we know it is doomed. What you say. Doomed? Yes, doomed. Your family, friends, distant relatives, your pet mouse Roo-roo, are all doomed.
But why, you ask, are hostile alien life forms landing to explode us all into miniscule smithereens? Has judgement day finally arrived? Are we all doomed at the hands of the creature from the black lagoon? Perhaps a fearful disease is about to sweep the planet of all life? Has the universe finally expanded to it’s entirety, and is now contracting at the greatest speed imaginable resulting in Earth’s reduction to a pile of mush? No. Something much, much worse.
GLOBAL WARMING.
Yes, dearies…sad to say it…but it’s not going to be pretty… or fun. You see over the past century or so…we’ve been burning excessive amounts of these little things called fossil fuels, which, okay, provide us with lots of electricity but they also produce lots and lots of carbon dioxide and water vapour, which collect in the atmosphere and although radiation from the sun gets through into the atmosphere, it can’t get back out, which means we slowly heat up like a Kentucky fried chicken. It’s not going to be too nice, what with rising sea levels and all that. We’d better expect more tsunamis and the like because the climate’s going to get pretty scary. The funny thing is…we could stop this if we just stopped using fossil fuels. But will anyone do anything? No. Why? Because everybody’s too scared of risking the economy…they don’t want to lose their precious money. Well, wake up…there isn’t going to be any use for money if we have an uninhabitable planet…because…you know, I don’t think they take sterling/dollars/euros/whatever in the afterlife…
We need to stop messing about doing nothing. If we don’t do something drastic within the next 20 years, the Greenland ice sheet will start melting. At that point, the effects of global warming will be irreversible, and we can also say bye-bye to the Earth as we know her. We need to take a stand people, and yes, even we can do something. Maybe the power is in the government’s hands, but this is supposed to be democracy, and they have to do what’s in our best interests… I’m going to take a wild leap and say it might be in our best interests to have a planet to live on…
We can all do simple things, like switch off your light when you don’t need it on; buy environmentally friendly products, use both sides of a piece of paper (remember we need trees!!!); plant a tree; compost; recycle; write a letter to your local politician about environmental policies, anything you can think of. But DO SOMETHING!
I’m going to have a sort of environment/nature type archive here so if anyone has an article/ information/ pictures they’d like putting up, please send them to free_tree@moose-mail.com! Ta midearies!
Below are some links to some great sites:
