Disclaimer: I cannot tell a lie. These characters, cool as they are, are not mine. Get that? Right. Good to have that clear.
Maybe Tomorrow
Sometimes ideal situations can turn horribly wrong.
Unfortunately, James found this out the hard way. And to give him some credit, at first it did seem good. Guess what? It turned bad. Here’s the sitch: Jesse’s sleeping bag had been utterly thunder shocked into oblivion. Problem: this meant she had to share his.
Why is this such a problem? I hear you ask in confused tones. Ah well, the problem arises when horny dreams are fighting to become very horny reality. And with Jesse’s body so close to James, it was all he could do to control his horny hands. Touching her would undoubtedly result in a frying pan to the head, so with great difficulty James restrained himself and tried to get to sleep.

Strangely enough, James was not the only one in a dilemma that night. Far across the forest, Ash too had a problem. Let me explain. Usually the sleeping arrangements for the twerps were simple: all of them slept in separate places, especially Misty. They all had to respect her private space. However, noticing that this particular forest was by no means bug free, Misty had demanded to sleep next to one of the boys. Brock had already disappeared into his sleeping bag, so naturally Misty set up hers next to Ash. Ash was quite happy about it. But now things didn’t feel so great.
Like James, Ash was having a lot of trouble stopping himself from acting on many horny daydreams. The hardest thing was, Misty looked if anything even more beautiful (to him) in moonlight. Her skin glowed a milky white. The hair that stood firmly to attention during the day softened during the night into winding orange tresses around her pointed face. But, Ash thought bitterly. What was the point? Nothing was gonna happen. He knew Misty didn’t feel that way about him. If only he knew what Misty had said to Melody, and I quote: ‘Ash is never really alone coz he’s got me’. But our ‘hero’ had no idea of Misty’s secret affections for him, and probably never will. But maybe…just maybe…

Jesse couldn’t sleep. Long into the night she lay awake, trying to ignore the fact that James was sleeping right next to her. For God’s sake, their bodies were touching!...but Jesse wouldn’t feel it. She couldn’t, for the sake of the team…and her pride. She felt so confused…Grabbing her diary, she quietly made her way from the tent to a quiet clearing. Opening it to a blank page, she began to write…
It’s the first time I’ve ever felt this lonely. I wish someone could cure this pain. It’s funny…there are moments when I can almost kid myself James feels the same way I do. Tonight should have been one of them. I was sure that us being so close…but how could we be any further away? I couldn’t tell him how I felt, and I can’t see us getting anywhere in the way of love, not now. But maybe, when, if, tomorrow comes…I might stand a chance with his heart. Yeah that’ll be the day. Still…tomorrow it may change…

“Why are you still awake Ash?” asked Misty. She had woken suddenly from a bug nightmare to find Ash staring at the sky.
“I…couldn’t sleep,” Ash said, turning to look at her.
“Well that’s a first,” said Misty. “What’s up Ash?” Ash shrugged. “Well…” To his great surprise, Misty actually took his hand. “Thanks for staying with me. If I’d woken up alone…but you were here, just like always.”
“You know I wouldn’t leave you,” Ash said smiling. “Someone has to protect you from icky scary bugs.” Another surprise: Misty didn’t wallop him, but merely smiled back. She gave his hand a squeeze that sent his adrenaline soaring.
“Thanks all the same.” As she turned and went back to sleep, Ash couldn’t help but wonder if tomorrow was not as far off as he had thought…

James had managed to sleep after all…for a while. Now he was as awake as ever…and Jesse had gone. For a moment he panicked. Where, why? Then he calmed his easily rattled nerves. Trying hard not to wake Meowth, he put on his boots and slipped out of the tent.
“Jess?” he called out. He walked through the forest, trying to spot his partner. “Jesse?” He didn’t have far to go before he found her, huddled against a tree trunk. “Oh Jess,” he said to her. “Come back to bed. You’ll freeze out here.” Jesse didn’t respond, which spurred James to do something he had never dared to do before. He sat down next to her and put his arm around her. Then he waited for the blow coming his way. When it didn’t arrive, and he felt Jesse relax, he went one step further. He turned her face toward him and kissed her gently on the lips.
O.K., I’ll leave it there. I, as a respectable writer (yeah right), do not wish to pry on kissing couples. However, I will tell you this: sometimes, just sometimes…tomorrow comes early.
