Chapter 4
Emerald and Knuckles were laying in the grass talking to one another, making jokes, laughing… Rouge knew all this because she watched from the shadows. Emerald began to flirt with Knuckles and Rouge scoffed. “ I know for a fact that does not work on him..” But to Rouge’s surprise, Knuckles kissed Emerald! Rouge clenched her teeth and felt a rush of anger and jealousy. She had an urge to go down there and make her bleed and cry. She wanted her to beg for mercy and receive none. But, she felt a rush of sorrow and a pang of loss. “ Well, you’ve done it… you have lost the one thing that you had that was worth fighting for...….way to go” She turned and flew away, with hot tears rolling down her cheeks.

Emerald woke up with a start. She had had a terrible dream. Knuckles was dead….or something…she could not remember… “ OH!” She said startled. They had fallen asleep next to each other and had gotten closer at some point, because he was on top of her. She pushed him off hard. He landed with a dull thud. “OW!” Emerald stood up and brushed off her pants. Suddenly from behind, someone wrapped her in an embrace. “OH! How I missed you! I thought you were dead!” Knuckles was amused with this new creature. It was a bat, with silky white fur. She looked very much like Emerald, except she had much longer hair. Her ears were studded with earrings. She wore a plain white shirt with a leather jacket, a skirt that barely reached her knees. A very attractive bat. It had to be Emerald’s older sister…. “ What are you doing here?” Emerald demanded “Should ask you the same thing….sneaking around with this….this…what ever he is….” Emerald blushed and Knuckles giggled. It was going to be a very interesting night.
