Yusuke Urameshi:  Yusuke is a delinquent.  Skipping school, getting into fights, that kind of stuff.  He's the toughest kid in school.  He dies very early in the series (hit by a car while trying to save a child), but comes back as a spirit detective.  Yusuke is sarcastic, but he cares for the few friends he has.

  Kazuma Kuwabara:  Kuwabara is Yusuke's rival.  He always had fights with Yusuke on the streets, and always loses.  After a while he becomes Yusuke's friend and tries to help him destroy demons.  Kuwabara is very determined and rude, and he has a keen sixth sense, which also really helps.  He has a strict honor code and a big respect for girls.  He's in love with Yukina, Hiei's sister.  

  Hiei Jaganshi:  A demon, Hiei used to be a villain.  He stole an ancient artifact called the Shadow Sword, which had the ability to turn anything into a slave demon.  He was forgiven by Koenma and forced to become one of Yusuke's teammates.  He doesn't like any of his new teammates, but he cooperates.  He has two forms:  Humanoid (Pictured) and demon (Looks the same, except he's green and he has eyes everywhere).

  Youki Kurama:  Kurama was once a demon fox (Youki) who was an evil thief.  After being wounded by a hunter, he ran to the living world and took over the body of a human infant, named Shuichi Minamino and took refugee in the living world, hoping to regain power and leave the Human World.  He grew to like his Human "relatives", and decided to stay with them.  Hiei eventually found him, seeking his expertise to help steal the Artifacts.  Kurama had the Forlorn Hope, a mirror that grants any wish at the cost of the user's life.  He never wanted to work with Hiei in the first place.  Kurama also ends up helping Yusuke's group, but he has respect for his teammates.  He's the show's bishounen (AKA "Pretty Boy").  His weapon is a rose whip....I mean, COME ON......

Genkai:  Genkai is an old lady with mystical powers.  She held a tournament, and the winner would be her apprentice.  Yusuke won, and Genkai taught Yusuke many new techniques and abilities.  She later joins Yusuke's team and fights with them in the Dark Tournament as the "Masked Fighter".  Remember Frieza from DragonBall Z?  That's right, same voice!!

  Botan:  Botan is the guide to the spirit world, AKA the Grim Reaper.  However, she's not at all like the evil, scary-looking skeleton everyone thinks she's supposed to look like.  She's usually very friendly, except when she's forced to scream at Yusuke.  She helps Yusuke come back to life, and eventually becomes a member of his team.  During the Dark Tournament, she's Team Urameshi's coach.

Keiko Ukimura:  Yusuke's girlfriend, Keiko is almost the total opposite of Yusuke.  She's the smartest kid in school, and she tries hard to work Yusuke to give himself a better life.  She helps Yusuke come back to life, by kissing his nearly-dead body....Sleeping Beauty, anyone?

Koenma:  Koenma is King Yama (Ruler of Spirit World)'s son.  He may look like a toddler, but he's around 700 years old.  He's Yusuke and Botan's boss, and he's the one that tells Yusuke what his missions are.  Whenever he does something bad, King Yama punishes him.....with spankings.  During the Dark Tournament, he's Team Urameshi's sponser and becomes the 5th member after Genkai is killed by Toguro Ototo.  Like Sakyo, he bets his life that Team Urameshi will win.  He actually survives though, because Yusuke's team DOES win.  Koenma is the comedy relief of the show.  He has 2 forms:  Toddler and Teenager, both are pictured.  To see the older Koenma pic, click the waving toddler.  It looks weird when I change the size, so you can see the full thing.  Click the toddler.........waaaahhhhh.....

Atsuko:  Yusuke's Mom, she's very young and not exactly the greatest mother of all time.  She couldn't care less about Yusuke, but she sort of changes after Yusuke comes back to life.  She still doesn't care what he does, as long as he doesn't try to get himself killed.

Shizuru:  Kuwabara's older sister and guardian, she's a tough girl.  Don't mess with her.  Doesn't she look a lot like Atsuko?  Weeiiiiird...

Funky Caveman:  He's in Koenma's video in the "Rescue Yukina" saga.  Why is he in the character page?  Because he's COOOL.  "RAAH!!  RAAH!!"

Gouki:  Gouki was not in much of the series.  He was in with Hiei and Kurama at the beginning of the series.  He had the Orb of Baast, an orb that steals souls.  Gouki is a demon who eats souls.  He is killed by Yusuke's Spirit Gun in the very second episode he's in.  Gouki tried to act like a tough guy, but he was a wimp.  He has two forms:  Humanoid and Demon.  He dies when Yusuke shoots a Spirit Gun into his mouth.

(Picture Unavailable) Rando:  He's a Hunter.  He trains under people like Genkai, and then kills them after absorbing thier powers.  Yusuke's job was to stop Rando from winning Genkai's tournament.  He joined as a little priest boy named Shorin.  He's killed 99 psychics in the past.

The Four Saint Beasts:  Genbu, Byakko, Seiryu, and Suzaku (Pic order: Suzaku, Murugu).  Genbu's a stone beast that can fuse himself with any type of rock, Byakko's a white tiger that can shoot energy from his throat, Seiryu's a blue dragon in human form that can use ice powers, Suzaku has electric abilities and is the leader of the beasts, and Murugu is Suzaku's pet bird.  They are worshipped by demons and they were using Makai Insects to rule the world.  Genbu fought Kurama, Byakko fought Kuwabara, Seiryuu fought Hiei, and Suzaku fought Yusuke.  Genbu's "Heart Stone" was destroyed by Kurama's Rose Whip, Byakko was frozen and shattered by Seiryuu, Seiryuu was chopped into pieces by Hiei, Suzaku was annihilated by Yusuke's huge spirit gun, and Murugu died the same way and time as Suzaku.

Ganzou Tarukane:  Tarukane is uuuuuugly!!  He's also a crime lord.  He stole Yukina and made a profit off her tears.  He lost his fortune to Sakyo, who then had the Toguro Brothers kill Tarukane.  Ototo kicks his head off!  Yay!

  Toguro Brothers:  (Pic order:  Ototo, Ani)  They were hired by Tarukane to make Yukina cry.  Tarukane made them fight Yusuke and co., but they purposely lost.  They end up being Yusuke's main concern at the Dark Tournament.  Younger Toguro (AKA Toguro Ototo or just Toguro, the one with the sunglasses) can change the size of his muscles, while Elder Toguro (With gray hair and usually stays on Younger Toguro's shoulders, AKA Toguro Ani) can transform into anything he wants.  Click Ototo's pic to see him at 120% of his power.....it's gross!!  Ototo was once Genkai's friend and partner, but he sold his soul and became a demon so he could live forever and not get weak.  As Yusuke kills him, he dies in peace knowing he finally got the extreme fight he's always wanted, and he knows that Genkai will be brought back.  He really wasn't so evil....As for Ani, he's pure evil.  He kills people for fun.  He dies when Kuwabara destroys Ani's entire body with his Spirit Sword.

Sakyo:  Sakyo was once a member of Tarukane's Black Black Club.  He was betting trillions of dollars that the intruders would defeat Toguro and their henchmen while Yusuke was trying to save Yukina.  You eventually find out Sakyo secretly hired the Toguros himself, and made them pretend to die so he could get Tarukane's money.  He funds Toguro's team at the Dark Tournament and is also its fifth member.  He dies after he bets his life that Team Toguro will win.  Since Yusuke's team won, he was forced to die.

Yukina Jaganshi:  Hiei's sister, she's an ice demon.  Her tears become valuable jewels that people want to sell for millions of dollars.  She gets kidnapped and trapped inside a tower, where hired professionals (Toguro Brothers) make her cry for her valuable tears.  Kuwabara falls in love with her, and she seems to like him too.

Team Toguro:  (Pic order:  Sakyo, Ototo, Ani, Bui, Karasu) This is Toguro's team in the Dark Tournament.  Sakyo may be Team Toguro's sponser, but he's also its fifth member.  Sakyo has no special powers or anything, but he always bets his life that Team Toguro will win.  Bui and Karasu lost to the Toguro Brothers in a fight, and were spared by Ototo on the condition that they become his teammates.  Karasu fights Kurama, Bui fights Hiei, Ani fights Kuwabara, Ototo fights Yusuke, and Sakyo bet his life that the other 4 members will win.
