Not Wrong

Peter Pan sat with Tiger Lily on their rock, dipping his feet into the water. He let his eyes wander away from Tiger Lily's shiny black hair to the waters' horizon, to see if any of the mermaids were coming. The mermaids were really pretty, and they all liked him and his stories.
"Peter," Tiger Lily said. "Peter, didn't you ever want to grow up?"
"No," Peter said stubbornly. "I'll stay young forever."
"Peter," Tiger Lily tried again, "did you ever want to kiss someone?"
Peter had learned what a real kiss was a long time ago, and was a bit angry with Wendy for lying to him, but it was pointless to be mad, because there wasn't anyone to be mad at anymore. "No," Peter said, but then realized it was a lie. "Yes."
"Really?" Tiger Lily perked up, but then her face dropped again. Peter watched. "It was probably Wendy, right?"
"Wendy? Of course not! She is almost my mother!"
Tiger Lily didn't bother to correct him. Was. Was. Her and all her daughters and grand-daughters."Who, then?"
Peter didn't know a lot of things, but he knew boys and girls were different, even if he wasn't entirely sure why. No one ever explained to him, and he never bothered asking. But he knew that girls were supposed to kiss boys, and boys were supposed to kiss girls. So he didn't know what Tiger Lily's reaction was going to be, and he didn't like that. He was used to everyone looking up to him. But he tried still. "John."
"John??"
"Yes, John," Peter said hotly. "Is there a problem?"
"Well. Peter, John is a boy!"
"Well, I know that."
"But Peter.. Well, haven't you ever wanted to kiss me?"
"Well, no."
Tiger Lily, offended, turned her back on Peter but didn't walk away.
"Tiger Lily? Tiger Lily?" Peter tried. What's her problem? Peter thought. She's no fun anymore. Peter flew away.
