Coincidence

Chapter 3

DISCLAIMER: I own no one

SUMMARY: Yet another strange incident from Buffy’s path.

Buffy was taking a bubble bath, playing with her little rubber ducky, splashing and generally making a big mess of things.

The phone rang, and Joyce left the room saying, “I’ll be back in just a minute, sweetie.” Buffy nodded happily, giggling as she splashed in the water. As soon as Joyce left the room, a familiar head popped up from underneath the water. Buffy giggled again. Coincidence looked funny with the suds on top of his head.

Coincidence, sputtering a little from holding his breath underwater, floated up above the tub, sitting tiny legs crossed in the air.

Buffy, a little mistrusting as she remembered the last time she’d spoken to the leprechaun, gave him a little frown. “What do you want me to do now?” she asked impatiently.

“Nothing,” Coincidence replied. Little Buffy glared at him.

“You always want me to do something,” he said. “Always. First it was burning things and then the big heavy rock…”

Coincidence shrugged. Then he smiled down at her. “Buffy, I want you to eat that bar of soap.”

Buffy wrinkled her nose at the leprechaun. “Why don’t you eat the soap?” she asked.

“I’m allergic,” the leprechaun replied. “I want you to eat soap.” His voice was more urgent. Buffy shrugged, and in a trancelike state, picked up the bar of soap.

“Can you make it taste like cheese?” she asked. Coincidence nodded. The important thing was that she ate the soap, not what it tasted like.

Buffy started chowing down on the soap and her mother appeared just as Coincidence disappeared.

“What are you doing?!” Joyce asked.

“Eating soap,” Buffy replied, little bits of soap flying out of her mouth. “It tastes like cheese.”

Joyce tried to take the soap away from Buffy, but the little slayer-to-be just stuffed it in her mouth and finished off the whole bar. She hiccupped a soap bubble, and as she realized her stomach hurt, she silently cursed that darn leprechaun for never leaving her alone.
