Page 15-20 - Original and Revised PagesThe original pages 15-20 of the shooting script was the introduction to Mike's uncle, John Carlson (in the script he is mainly referred to as Carlson).
After a stray cat eats some of the goo, grows and escapes from of Nancy's house, Mike suddenly gets an idea. Leaving Genius in his lab, he and Nancy rush to Carlson's house to tell what they have witnessed. Naturally, the older relation doesn't believe Mike at first, but once some of the goo has been fed to some of the man's ducks, Carlson becomes a believer!
Meanwhile, back in his basement lab, Genius is working on some other projects, when he hears Wolf at the door. Opening it, he is shocked to see that his dog has grown enormous too (though we do not know how he obtained some. Maybe...he killed the cat and ate some of it, thus leading to his growth?).
Back at Carlson's, talk turns to the potential to make big money off of the goo. Seeing a goldfish in a bowl, Mike curiously feeds a little goo to it. The result is the fish growing and bursting out of the bowl! It is also at this point that Nancy notices that the giant ducks have escaped from their small enclosure.
On Page 21 of the script, there are the last vestiges of the scene in Carlson's house, as Mike's uncle takes the enlarged goldfish, and puts it in the bathtub before he, Mike, and Nancy go off in search of the ducks.
In the revised pages dated 4-19-65, all the scenes at Carlson's house have been cut, and the elements from pages 17-20 that were carried over, are now contained in one page. The enlarging of the ducks is moved to Nancy and Genius' backyard, and Mike and Nancy are present when Wolf's growth is revealed. All of Carlson's dialogue about making money off the goo is now given to Mike.
The scene at Carlson's was also to have taken place at night, which we guess means that Mike and Nancy had to travel a ways to get there, given the previous scenes were listed as day scenes. However, the fact that it happened at night, means that the search for the ducks didn't take that long. In the film, the search starts during daylight, making it seem like they looked for several hours before the ducks were tracked down to the Whiskey A Go Go. |
