In The Laws of the Blood, Susan Sizemore gives us another perspective of how the vampires of the U.S. live. The vampires of Ms. Sizemore don't need coffins to sleep in and they technically don't die. She believes they can sleep just about anywhere and their soul does what she calls dream riding. They do not have human servants that stay with them for life, they only have companions who they are only bound to by a bloodbond. They very seldom have much physical contact with their companions due to the risk of making them a vampire as well. A vampire in this world can make their companion a vampire if they feed off them enough, were in most worlds the human cannot be infected by vampirism if they are bound to a master. Not one single master controls the vampires in a city, they are spread out among the city in what they call Nest. A Nest is a group of vampires, slaves, and companions that live together and hunt together. They call themselves the Strigoi and have their own laws to protect. In these books, mortals are not aware of the Strigoi, they do not know they exist. Those who do know they exist have strong physic powers and often become a companion of a Strigoi. They however do have enforcers who control the vampires in each city across the U.S. The enforcers are like cops to the Strigoi. They protect the laws of the Strigoi and keep the other vampires from breaking them. They are also in charge of when they can hunt and when they cannot. In the world of the Strigoi they only feed when the lead enforcer of the city says they can feed and hunt. If they go outside his laws, they are hunted down and killed. I could go on and on telling you about the Strigoi and their ways of life, but what fun would that be if I told you everything, instead of you reading them yourselves. I highly recommend these books, they are very good and if you like different tales of the undead, then these novels are for you.
