Time to Write Again
Now Playing: It's the end of 2009
I'm so glad to see the end of this year!  And I'm hoping for good things in 2010.  First off, I'm hoping to get more organized - more goal oriented - so I can get more accomplished with what ever time I have left on this earth.  I've been "wanting" many things over the years.  I want to be financially fit, physically fit, thinner, and famous <G>.  But there's a difference between wanting something, and actually making that a goal!  I feel the difference now, any ways.  I guess it's like I always "wished" I were thinner, but I wasn't ready to make the sacrifices necessary.  I didn't want to give up chocolate, butter, or cream in my coffee.  I didn't want to exercise.  I didn't want to make the changes necessary to achieve a goal.  Now I do.  And I lost five pounds in a month.  Not fantastic achievements, but certainly positive.  So here's to 2010!  To achieving real weight loss, and becoming published!

Long time, no see

Well, I guess I've never been much good at keeping a journal! But one of my son's good friends was able to find us, after losing touch, through this blog! So I guess I should keep trying.

Stargate is doing great, by the way. She's fully recovered from her traffic accident, and eveng getting a little overweight from too much food and not enough exercise. Yes, that happens to the best of us. I wish I could take her out training, but we're getting ready to put our hobby farm on the market so I just don't have time.

And that is our biggest news right now. My DH has taken a new job in Michigan. Our 26 acre little piece of heaven will be for sale in the near future. I've had a lot of practice moving, but never before have I had to move livestock. We currently have 44 sheep, 5 llamas, and 13 dogs, a fat cat and severalgrown kids still living with us. I did manage to find a good home for my aging dairy cow. And while I miss the fresh milk, I don't miss the time I spent every day milking her, cleaning her shed, shaking butter, churning ice cream, and watching yogurt. Not to mention my few failed attempts at cheese!

Well, guess that's all I have to say for now.

Running Dreams

Well, it's been almost a week. Stargate sleeps most of the time, but I finally moved her out of the bathroom and back into her dog yard. She was too warm inside, and missed her mama. She still won't eat dog food, but if I offer her raw meat, she scarfs it down. I don't think there's anything wrong with her insides. She's probably just not hungry because she's not moving around. Anyway, I'll continue to spoil her with hamburger, or steak trimmings, and a few handfuls of doggy kibble drizzled in gravy.

I took her back to Dr. Burch, and she examined the leg again. Turns out she does have an x-ray machine, but we both decided not to x-ray the leg. Stargate will put a little weight on it on occasion. She thinks it was cracked, not completely broken, and the dog would probably just chew on a splint if she put one on her.

Meanwhile, we had a warm spell. Much of our lovely snow melted. Now we've got ice, and a thin blanket of fresh snow over the ice, so you really can't see where you're going to fall down next. Lots of fun. Can you see I'm not smiling?

Poor Stargate

The snow is really beautiful this year! Lots and lots of it, piled high around trees and fences and at the foot of the driveway. So clean and white, it washes the whole world clean! But it also makes the fences not tall enough. And Sunday night (Dec. 30) two of my sled dogs decided to take themselves for a run.

Unfortunately, neither of them knows to stay on the side of the road. We knew immediately when they got loose. My husband hopped in the truck and tried to follow them. I grabbed a fanny pack filled with doggie treats, a couple of leashes, and took off on foot as I called to them.

They weren't even gone fifteen minutes! But it was long enough for Stargate to get hit. The driver stopped and carried her to the side of the road, where he waited for help to arrive. Our neighbor happened to be driving by and nearly hit the dog first, so he stopped to give assistence, and he called us - although we had already left the house to look for the dogs. My husband got there a few minutes later.

We managed to catch the second dog before she could be hurt. Then I called every vet in the phone book to try to find one that was open. Finally Dr. Burch would see her. Dr. Burch is a wonderful vet, very good with animals and people, but she doesn't have a lot of equipment in her small practice. She's very old, and nearing retirement. She just examined the dog without an x-ray, and didn't think the leg was broken. But she couldn't do much for her. She kept Stargate overnight, and I brought her home the next day.

Stargate is not whining or complaining, but she only walks on three legs. She isn't eating normally, and not doing other doggy body functions as she should. I'm afraid I'll have to take her to another vet tomorrow, and get her x-rayed. Lots of money. And both Stargate and I will miss this year of mushing together, I'm sure, even if the leg makes a full recovery.

Knight Dreaming

It's been a long time since I last checked my web page.  The email address was so old, I'd forgotten that I'd had that email once upon a time.  And I wasn't sure I even remembered how to log in, and make the changes necessary.  Anyway, the email is current now.  But my webpage still isn't.

I've been meaning to make some changes.  Wanted to edit some of my stories, since my kids are now reading my webpage.  Wanted to make them a little less slash and graphic, but keep the general feeling of the story.  Don't know when I'll find time to do all that.  I've promised a very good friend of mine that I would finish the Dance series and the Voyager series, and I mean to keep that promise.  Even if I missed my own deadline. I had said I'd do it for her for Christmas.  Obviously, I missed it.  We're still in the Christmas season, but I just don't have the time or the ideas to do it.  So I'm re-reading my Voyager series, and trying to get back into the mood.

It's helped that my son is home from the army (was in Kuwait and Korea, never Iraq) and we've been watching Voyager reruns in the afternoons.  It's funny, though, because we've both read my stories enough, that we keep expecting Nick to be a part of the episodes!  And once my son even asked me when Nick got his sight back.

Oh well, guess that's it for now.  I'm new to blogs, and don't even know if this will post correctly.  But I've been told all my life that a good writer keeps a journal. I've never been very good at that.  We'll see.
