THE PEN

On a dark night in the park,

a woman walks alone.

A stranger runs up,

slits her throat

and takes her purse.

he then runs away

and never looks back.

The helpless victim lays there

feeling, watching,

the life being drained out of her,

thinking of the pen

she bought her daughter,

the one with the happy face

that rolls around.

Someone stumbles upon her,

but its too late.

The thief rounds the corner,

and fishes around in the purse.

Five whole dollars.

The funeral is the next day.

The tears of despair

and hopelessness

begin to fall

for the innocent victim,

murdered for five dollars

and a happy face pen.
