Many times we hear about teenagers dying daily, but we never think it can happen to us, or anyone close to us, until it does. Unfortunately, this happened to Salina Watson of Bethel 10 on December 5th, 1998 at approximately 2:00 AM. She was a passenger in a car with 2 other girls, when they were hit head-on by a drunk driver. Many times we hear about drunk drivers on the road. This is a serious crime, and those drivers don't realize what they can do. They take away lives daily. THIS MUST BE STOPED! Salina was a very friendly and enthusiastic person. She had only been a member of Job's Daughters for a little while, but she gave the International Order of Job's Daughters her all. She was one of those people you saw popping up around the state, helping out at various Bethels, and you wouldn't be able to forget her. She was just the kind of person who made you laugh, even when you didn't feel like laughing. Her vocabulary was contagious, and so was her smile. We will all miss her "I'm pretty sure..."'s, her "I'm all about..."'s, that beautiful 'Snowflake sweater', and the very fashionable 'Rainier socks'. It is unfortunate that we lost such an enthusiastic young woman. She was 18 and a freshman at Carroll College. Salina volunteered her time as much as possible. From giving blood, to getting pledges and walking in the MS walk, she was always willing to help others. She had never gotten the chance to be Honored Queen in Job's Daughters, but that never stopped her from traveling to other Bethels whenever she was able to. You are loved Salina, and you will definitely be missed. |

Rest In Peace, dear friend, I LOVE YOU!!!!

but I remembered what you said. You told me not to drink at all, So I had a sprite instead. I felt proud of myself, the way you said i would, that I didn't choose to drink and drive, though some friends said I should. I knew I made a healthy choice and your advice to me was right as the party finally ended and the kids drove out of sight. I got into my own car, sure to get home in one piece, never knowing what was coming, something I expected the least. Now I'm laying on the pavement. I can hear the policeman say, "The kid who caused this wreck was drunk." His voice seems so far away. My own blood is all around me, as I try hard not to cry. I can hear the paramedic say, "This girl is going to die." I'm sure the guy had no idea, while he was flying high, because he chose to drink and drive that I would have to die. So why do people do it, knowing that it ruins lives? But now the pain is cutting me like a hundred stabbing knives. Tell my sister not to be afraid, tell daddy to be brave, and when I go to heaven to Someone should have taught him that it's wrong to drink and drive. Maybe if his mom and dad had, I'd still be alive. My breath is getting shorter, I'm getting really scared. These are my final moments, and I'm so unprepared. I wish that you could hold me, Mom as I lie here and die. I wish that i could say I love you and good-bye. Retold by Jane Watkins
