Salina Watson

In Loving memory of Salina Watson
Many times we hear about teenagers dying daily, but we never think it can happen to us, or anyone close to us, until it does.
Unfortunately, this happened to Salina Watson of Bethel 10 on December 5th, 1998 at approximately 2:00 AM. She was a passenger in a car with 2 other girls, when they were hit head-on by a drunk driver. Many times we hear about drunk drivers on the road. This is a serious crime, and those drivers don't realize what they can do. They take away lives daily. THIS MUST BE STOPED!

Salina was a very friendly and enthusiastic person. She had only been a member of Job's Daughters for a little while, but she gave the International Order of Job's Daughters her all. She was one of those people you saw popping up around the state, helping out at various Bethels, and you wouldn't be able to forget her. She was just the kind of person who made you laugh, even when you didn't feel like laughing. Her vocabulary was contagious, and so was her smile. We will all miss her "I'm pretty sure..."'s, her "I'm all about..."'s, that beautiful 'Snowflake sweater', and the very fashionable 'Rainier socks'. It is unfortunate that we lost such an enthusiastic young woman. She was 18 and a freshman at Carroll College. Salina volunteered her time as much as possible. From giving blood, to getting pledges and walking in the MS walk, she was always willing to help others. She had never gotten the chance to be Honored Queen in Job's Daughters, but that never stopped her from traveling to other Bethels whenever she was able to. You are loved Salina, and you will definitely be missed.

Please help STOP the terrible crime of drinking and driving. DON'T DO IT and don't let your friends do it! Please visit the MADD homepage and find out more about what you can do to possibly help prevent this crime. Thank you, and have a SAFE 1999.
I will never again hear her say, "Us Watsons' stick together" in her bright, cheery voice. Whenever we wre together going to the same place, that was our special quote. We were the watsons' who weren't related. I remember when we first met; we were waiting in line for the MWJD pagent in 1997. We were both so surprised to find somebody with the same last name. We were going to find out if we were related but we were never able to. She always made me smile. I will always remember the other Watson who wasn't related to me.
REST IN PEACE, SALINA.

Lots of Love,
the other Watson

It's hard to believe that I had only met her a little bit over a year ago, funny thing is that we were just talking about the day we met a few days before the accident. It was Nov. 1997, and we were in the Apps' van on our way to Janesville. We were a little shy at first, but who would've known that we would've become so close. We'd spend hours and hours on the phone talking about school, guys, family, and of course jobies... It's hard to put how close we really were into words, and there's no way for me to express how much she meant to me or how much I'm going to miss her. With all the memories I have of her, I will never forget the look of complete joy on her face when she was chosen as one of the top 5 finalists in the Miss Wiss pageant, I was so proud of her. I will miss her more than words can explain, but I know that she is now up in heaven watching over all of us with a huge smile across her face can't wait to see her again, I'll be the one with the purple dress and Adidas sandals!
Rest In Peace, dear friend, I LOVE YOU!!!!

Somebody Should Have Taught Him
I went to a birthday party
but I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink at all,
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
the way you said i would,
that I didn't choose to drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.
I knew I made a healthy choice and
your advice to me was right
as the party finally ended
and the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my own car,
sure to get home in one piece,
never knowing what was coming,
something I expected the least.
Now I'm laying on the pavement.
I can hear the policeman say,
"The kid who caused this wreck was drunk."
His voice seems so far away.
My own blood is all around me,
as I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
"This girl is going to die."
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
while he was flying high,
because he chose to drink and drive
that I would have to die.
So why do people do it,
knowing that it ruins lives?
But now the pain is cutting me
like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell my sister not to be afraid,
tell daddy to be brave,
and when I go to heaven to Someone should have taught him
that it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his mom and dad had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter,
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me, Mom
as I lie here and die.
I wish that i could say
I love you and good-bye.

This was one of Salina's favorite stories out of the Chicken Soup for the teenage soul. Salina always loved you Jobie's just like her own sisters. She was a wonderful person and always made everyone laugh. I truely believe in that poem. If someone would have taught him, then my sister would have still been here today. Salina please remember take care of all of us and our little Ryan. We love you and miss you dearly Salina (buddy). Rest in peace my buddy!!!
