(Karen is standing at the Nurses Station. Joe walks up to the desk, wearing a gray sleeveless shirt and gray shorts.)
J: So, did I miss anything exciting around here?
K: (laughs) Nice outfit.
J: (smiles) Thanks. I should have changed before I got here, but -
K: What are you doing here on your day off?
J: I was looking for you.
K: Why?
J: Because I was playing basketball with some guys from the neighborhood, and guess what?
K: You sunk one from the center line.
J: No, I wish. Uh, actually one of the guy's mother has an apartment for rent that she's gonna put in tomorrow's paper...
K: Oh. No kidding.
J: And it's a really nice place and I thought maybe you'd wanna take a look at it before it got scooped up.
K: Well, I'm not off work yet.
J: You could go after.
K: Maybe I could do that.
J: I don't - I don't wanna sound like I'm telling you what to do - I mean, I don't wanna barge into your life.
K: Oh, it's okay. Barge away. I've been meaning to move for awhile, I just haven't had time.
J: You mean you don't wanna live with your mother anymore? (smiles)
K: (laughs) No. It's a little difficult to go from doctor to 12-year-old every time you open the door.
J: Yeah, tell me about it.
K: (laughs) She doesn't mean to drive me crazy, it just happens. She loves me though. I mean, she's great. It's just hard, you know, to go from living with your husband to living with your mother.
J: Well, it sounds like you're ready to move on.
K: Yeah. You know what, if this place is even halfway decent, I'm gonna take it. Do you have the address?
J: Yeah, um, (takes a piece of paper from his pocket) it's right here. Her name is Alice, she'll be home all night, you can give her a call.
K: Great. Okay. Thanks. I'll do it after work.
J: Okay, um, let me know.
K: Hey, um, Joe, don't you think you deserve a little finder's fee? I mean, a good apartment is hard to come by these days.
J: So, what did you have in mind?
K: Oh, I don't know, a take-out dinner. On me.
J: You're on.
K: Great. Uh, I'll see you at Alice's then.
J: Okay. Um, is everything okay? I mean, you're all right?
K: Yeah. I'm a lot better since you showed up.
