I am ARI WITHANAGE of Sutton, Surrey in the United Kingdom. I am an expatriate of Sri Lanka, who has made his home in the United Kingdom. Like thousands of other Sri Lankan expats, I still love Sri Lanka.

I was born in Matara, the capital of Ruhuna. RUHUNA is referred to as the Land of the Heroes, and no wonder I salute the sons of Ruhuna who fought and laid their lives for the unity, integrity and one nationhood of our Paradise Island in the East.  I was eduacated  first (primary schooling) at Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya, Weligama, and then at Rahula College, Matara, from where I entered the University of Ceylon at Peradeniya (near Kandy). Since graduation I left the sunnier climes of Sri Lanka and made my way to a cold and unfriendly environment in the West.

So, here I am in the salubrious Surrey, one of the most prosperous Home Counties of the United kingdom. I work in London for an organisation called the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority (in short called the London Fire Brigade). My office is situated just south of the River Thames, in fact overlooking the river, at a place called Albert Embankment. Sitting at my desk, I can virtually see the time of the day on th Big Ben at the Houses of Parliament across the river.

Computers and computing are my interests (more like obsessions) at present. Learning HTML and designing web pages are two other indulgences I relish myself in nowadays. Now that you are here, please do me the honour of signing my guest book below.

Where I Work

WELCOME TO ARI WITHANAGE'S WORKPLACE

My job is described as Systems Administrative Officer attached to the London Fire Brigade or the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA is the Fire Authority for London).

My work is in the Fire Safety Department of the London Fire Brigade dealing with the  maintenance of a database which holds records of premises within the Greater London area.

Since 1997, Ari Withanage has launched many a website to promote travel and tour to Sri Lanka. But, he has until now  published no photographs of himself on the web. He is normally a shy person, and therefore is very reluctant and hesitant to show himself under the spotlight or the limelight.

However, there have recently been several requests by certain web enthusiasts and 'Friends of Sri Lanka' asking Ari to show himself up. Ari would rather retreat to his cocoon and get on with his web design work than subject himself to a photo session. Ari has made it his mission to bring the message of Sri Lanka to many in the West. He is obsessed with his desire to bring you a 'Taste of the Paradise', which is Sri Lanka.  

However, one of his colleagues at work, George Pollitt, with his newly purchased digital camera tempted Ari to come out of his shell and show his ugly mug to the web community. So, here is Ari. Have a good look, and have a good laugh !! You are warned not to have any nightmares after seeing these photos. If it's night time, "Have good night and if going to bed ....  have sweet dreams", or if it's daytime "Have a good day".
