“Brooke County Historical Facts”

Elder Milton Wells was the son of Basil and Nancy McIntyre Wells. He married Mary Meigs Walker and they were the parents of four children - Josephine, Franklin, Charlotte and Clifford.

Mr. Wells attended Bethany College in 1857. In the fall of 1863, he was elected Clerk of the Brooke County Circuit Court. During the autumn of 1865, Mr. Wells was appointed Superintendent of Brooke County Schools as well as principal of the Wellsburg High School. He held this position until his resignation in April of 1871.

Mr. Wells drew all the plans and supervised the building of nearly all of the school houses in Brooke County, including the old school at the corner of 9th and Commerce Street in Wellsburg which was torn down a few year ago.
