Stevie Winwood
Born May 12, 1948, Birmingham, England. A virtuoso musician, Stevie has been involved in the perfoming business since he was a teenager. He started in the 'Spencer Davis R & B Quartet' in 1963, with his brother Muff as his guardian! On to the 'Spencer Davis Group' for several years, developing additional instrumental skills. And in 1966, a brief foray and recording session with Eric Clapton as part of 'The Powerhouse'(several other sessions too, including the 'Raw Blues" gig with John Mayall and Champion Jack Dupree). At those sessions, Stevie and Eric most certainly were dabbling with thoughts of forming a super group. In 1967, Winwood then co-founded the group Traffic (in its first incarnation), taking the lead in composing and performing.
All that, quite a bit of accomplishment for a chap at a mere age of twenty! By the winter of 1969, Stevie was a gifted, seasoned and multi-faceted musician, easily the most adept of the musicians in the germinating Blind Faith. And because of that, in a musical sense, he became the unassuming leader of the group!
