My Favorite Authors

George OrwellMy Favorite Author

  • He wrote many awesome books, including Animal Farm and 1984.
  • For the most part he wrote his books as novels depicting the horrors of totalitarianism. Totalitarianism is centralized, absolute control of all aspects of life (language, media, history, etc) by an autocratic authority using widespread terror. Joeseph Stalin's government was considered totalitarianistic when he reigned as Russia's ruler in the 1930s and 40s.
  • I just used alliteration when i said "reigned as Russia's ruler" because they all have the "r" sound!
  • He liked karl marx and ideal communism; his books were not meant to criticize communism in any way.

Aldous HuxleyMy Second Favorite Author

  • He wrote many awesome books, including Brave New World and Point Counter Point.
  • I don't know much about him, but reading Brave New World and Brave New World Revisited seems like enough. Brave New World is a very interesting projection of a utopia-like world. The latter was written by Huxley years after the first, and warns us that, if the world population keeps rising as it is, the only government that can control us is a form of totalitarianism somewhat like in his first book.
  • I am currently reading Point Counter Point, and it seems interesting.
  • Huxley is often more praised than Orwell, because Huxley wrote of dystopias (negative future projections) before Hitler. Orwell based some books on Hitler's government, after its atrocities.

Ray BradburyMy Third Favorite Author

  • "The animated cartoon is just about the purest, least arguable, most invigorating art form invented since mankind did shadow shows with wriggling fingers, then trapped them in cave-wall graffiti 200 generations ago..." - Awesome Quote (cartoons rule!)
  • "People ask me to predict the future, when all I want to do is prevent it. Better yet, build it. Predicting the future is much too easy, anyway. You look at the people around you, the street you stand on, the visible air you breathe, and predict more of the same. To hell with more. I want better." - Another Awesome Quote
  • He wrote The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, Dandelion Wine, The Illustrated Man, Golden Apples of the Sun, Something Wicked This Way Comes and much, much more.
  • My favorite of his is Fahrenheit 451 because I've read it and understand it the most.
  • Ray is still alive and writing today.
