We are used to thinking of self-hypnosis as something that is done on
purpose, by persons to themselves. But what hypnotism is, is merely the
suggestions of ideas (concepts) that are perceived and put into a time-released
form that can be a very powerful and overwhelming thing. People intentionally
hypnotize themselves all the time without realizing that this is what they are
really doing. People who are on diets and use "will-power" have in fact
hypnotized themselves. This is the type of hypnotism that we term "auto-
self-hypnosis". Society may one day be able to make very good use of this
knowledge in achieving great goals, but when the phenomenon exists and
occurs on its own without the control of individuals, it can be very destructive.

Anyone who excels at anything through their "will-power" or "drive" has done
so by the suggestive power of hypnotism. This suggestive power works in all
areas of the mind, including, as we have said, the subconscious. You may self-
hypnotize yourself while you sleep and of course, not realize that you have
done so. This does not mean that you are evil or a criminal. Your 'intent' while
being awake may be entirely different from that which you may be led to find
yourself in as a result of being hypnotized while sleeping. So, even the fact that
persons have done things with "apparent" intent, does not mean that they did so
without having first being hypnotized to do so - in a DREAM they had!!! And yet,
society does not realize this and therefore punishes people who have no doubt
done things that they truly had no control over on a "conscious" level.

There have been some examples of things that I have heard of personally from
people who have realized after the fact of events happening that they indeed
had no idea why it was that they had done things; only to realize later that they
had hypnotized themselves to do those things as 'automatic responses'. For
example, there was a person who as a child had a fear that they may get caught
in a fire while in class at school. They had intentionally been thinking of ways
in which to make sure that they would be able to get out of the building as soon
as possible. This person 'dreamed' about this for several weeks and had come to
the conclusion that the only thing that they could do is to start running as soon
as they heard a fire bell ringing. It so happened later in life that while this person
was shopping in a mall that a bell with a sound like that of a 'fire bell' went off
and this person found himself running for no apparent reason. The reason was
later found to be that this person had in fact been hypnotized during sleep to do
this automatically without thinking - for the purpose of self-preservation.

When I was asked how this can be proved, the first thoughts that I had was that
it first must be known and thought about before it can be demonstrated in
actuality. As far as I had discovered this and knew it to be the actual valid truth,
this was because of the fact that I had done some research on the phenomenon
of not only hypnotism in general, but also in that little known, little understood
area of self-hypnosis.

When I understood the process, I thought about it and realized that I myself had in
fact hypnotized myself in the past without realizing it. And so, finally, there was
an explanation for things in my own life that I could not have understood
otherwise. An explanation for why I, a very reasonable and rational, sane person
had done some things in my life that made no rational sense at all and that had
no basis in wakeful sober conscious reasoning. And there it was, the answer.

Another person told me that they had done some things not out of a thoughtful
sober decision to do so, and not while under the influence of alcohol or drugs -
and yet, they still had no idea as to how it was that they did some of the things
that they did. It turns out that upon reflection and remembering that they too had
done things as a child for the purpose of self-preservation. And I wonder how
many others have done the very same thing.

It can be a fearful thing to be a child or even an adult who is facing things that
seem 'scary' to them. When I again interviewed the person who ran upon hearing
a bell, I learned something more. And that was not only did the person run
immediately upon hearing the bell, but that once they had stopped running they
felt as if they were choking on smoke! And were indeed having a difficult time
breathing. This, all because they had 'dreamed' about this and that had caused
them to be hypnotized. This instance shows that persons can and do, do things
while awake that they have no control over.

I bet that any number of persons who is read this article will be able to think
of something that they had done that was embarrassing or that they had no idea
or reason that they can think of for some of the things that they had done. Even
the issue of "peer-pressure" may be addressed to some degree with this new
knowledge.

Why is "crime" addressed? Once I had time to think about it, I realized that when
I was listening to a television interview with someone who had committed a
violent crime - when that person was asked why they had done it they simply said;
"I don't know." Then, it really became clear to me that we have a lot of people
out there who are walking around and ready to do any number of things
depending upon what "triggers" them to do those things. It could be a sound, a
word, a feeling, a color, a pattern, a phrase, a smell, and on and on. Which
makes me think of those persons who have bombed abortion clinics and who
have done other violent acts. "Pre-medication", or the concept of it as it relates
to "crime", once this is understood, really has very little to do with it as persons
can "make preparations" for crimes while in a trance and not be conscious of it.
At least not in the sense that we need to start to think of being 'conscious' as.

We are talking about persons who are most likely very 'nice' persons to their
neighbors and family, and who have done things NOT because they were "mean"
or evil, or even WANTED to do those things while awake, but who just had
the misfortune of having a DREAM about those things. This being the case,
then if we ignore this and do not pay the proper attention to this, we will be
dooming all of humanity for the fact that the more that we learn and dream of,
the more we will be working against ourselves unwittingly because of what
results from our very dreams. If we can imagine and dream the very best of
things, then we certainly must make ourselves aware of what the worst of
all scenarios may be. And having no control over our own minds while we
sleep, is the legacy that we are left with because of irrational beliefs that
cause us to become egocentric. Again, being egocentric makes us hyper-
sensitive to 'suggestion', and that is the driving force behind "auto-self-
hypnosis".
