Summary-
The Birth of Isaac:
When Abraham was a hundred years old Sarah bore a son, as the Lord promised, that they
named Isaac. When Isaac was eight days old Abraham circumssiced him.
Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away:
Sarah didn’t want Ishmael to share in the inheritance of her son, Isaac. So she told
Abraham to send Hagar and Ishmael away. Abraham was troubled with this but God told
him to do what Sarah asks, and God will make Ishmael a great nation because he is a son
of Abraham.
The next morning Abraham gave Hagar some food and a skin of water and sentthem on
there way. She wandered the desert of Beershaba and when they ran out of water Hagar
put Ishmael under a bush and walked a little ways because she didn’t want to watch her
son die. She began to cry then God asked her why she was cring. God told her that he is
going to make her son into a great nation. Then God opened Hagar’s eyes and she saw a
well. She filled the skin and gave some ater to Ishmael.
Ishmael grew up and became an archer. When the were living in the Desert of Paran
Hagar got Ishmael a wife from Egypt.
The Treaty at Beersheba:
Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his forces, said to Abraham that God is with
Abraham so swear that you will not deal falsely with me or my descendants.
Abraham said, “I swear it.” Then Abraham complained that some of Abimelech’s servants
seized one of his wells. Abimelech said that he didn’t know about this. So Abraham gave
Abimelech some sheep, cattle, and secen ewe lambs as a witness that Abraham has dug the
well.
After this treaty was made Abimelech and Phicol went to the land of the Philistines for a
long time.
