Three Visitors
Summary-
One day while Abraham was resting at the entrance of his tent, to escape the heat of the day, the Lord appeared. Abraham looked up and saw three men, so he hurried to meet them and bowed low to the ground. Abraham fetched some water to wash the lords feet, had Sarah bake some bread, he picked a tender calf for his servent to prepare, and he brought some curds and milk for the lord to eat. The Lord said, I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah overheard what they were saying and since she was past the age of childbearing she laughed. Upon hearing the laugh God got angry and asked why Sarah laughed; "is anything too hard for the Lord". Sarah was afraid so she lied and said she didn't laugh. The Lord said, "Yes, you did laugh."
Abraham Pleads for Sodom
Summary-
When the men got up to leave they looked toward Sodom, and Abraham walked with them to see them on their way. The Lord stopped and said, " The out cry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me." Then Abraham said, "What if there are fifty rightous people in the city? WIll you really sweep it away, and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it." Then the Lord said, "If I find fifty righeous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." Then Abraham talked the Lord down to 45, then 40, then 30, then 20, and finally talked the Lord all the way down to 10 righteous eople in the town. Then Abraham left and went home.
