Robertson's advertising using Golly
Ok... We ( in Britain ) think of Robertson's as a jam making company. Quite rightly they are seen as high quality manufacturers and I use no other Jams. They are also makers of fine preserves , marmalade and many other products. The golly hasn't been used in their advertising for a while but I've found a few adverts from when it was.
The first simply mentions the jam but also appears to have the real name of the Robertson's Golly. Looks like his name is BERT ! .. I can't say that I've seen this anywhere else but it must have been used at one time. The image in the older brooches probably could be used with the name Bert, but with the newer brooches it could become a bit weird. Bert the ballet dancer ( complete with pink leotard and Tu-tu ) is a scary thought and Bert the queen would certainly mean something else in today's society. Anyway, just bear in mind the name Bert. It may be that we can resurrect this... About time he has a name other than 'The Robertson's Golly'.... Much shorter for a start.
Golden Shred was the first product , and was the name given to a few different preserves when they first started business. Today it is the name given to their orange marmalade which is still very popular with people. The Robertson's name always has meant good quality. The Golly was an easily recognisable sign of this. There is also the distinctive Golden Shred Logo that has only changed a little in the past few decades. A shame poor old Golly ( or should I say Bert ) had to go.
