Gollies - The Sets.
These are shown in the order that I get around to putting them on the page. I promise that I'll sort them when I can and try to get them chronologically.
The 1970s Range
A range of 13 Gollies produced in the 1970s. Not a big range and there were no fruits or limited editions with it, but these are lovely colourful brooches and the last of the enamel to be produced in great quantities. The majority of these were made by REV Gomm but rarer ones made by Fattorini can be found. These were made during a bad time for Golly. There was little support from Robertson's for the Golly image and the new 'face' of political correctness was rearing it's ugly head. Fine badges though.
The 1950s/60s range
The main part of my collection are these. Loads of makers stamps on the back and despite there being only 11 basic designs there are hundreds of variations and I have 102 of them. There are also a Lemon and a Raspberry badge with no Golly featured on them. I have all 6 variations of the Raspberry and 4 of the 5 Lemons. The makers of this time tended to use their own dies to cast these in and lots of variations. The colours of hands and feet , the size and positioning of the eyes and the quality all vary greatly from one to another. Just collecting these would be a hobby in itself.
1992 Olympic Set.
These are a set of 4 that were released in 1992 to celebrate the Barcelona Olympic Games of that year. Simply 4 athletes in different events but they all look very fit Gollies and not the shorter cuddly guy that we are used to. The range is still quite available from people like myself so it must have been produced in large numbers.
1980 Fruits Set.
These are a set of 5 that were released in the 1980s. They all feature a Golly face peering out from behind a pile of large fruits. Lemon, Raspberry, Blackcurrant Orange and Strawberry. Very different and most of them were bubble coated - There is a Strawberry and Lemon that are without the bubble coating. The Blackcurrant is the most difficult to get. They also have no makers or Robertson's backstamp.
