I was listening to an anti-racism webradio station today and Billie Holliday's "Strange Fruit" came on. I love that song, but the version I like even better was done by Nina Simone.

I figured I'd put up a page here which is kind of a tribute to Nina Simone but mostly a tribute to that song.

I'm honestly not sure where this page will go from here; I guess you'll have to return every once in a while to see, eh?

Enjoy,
marco

I sing a version here, [ .mp3 ] [ .rm ] you might enjoy. My voice doesn't do what Nina's does so I focused more on the guitar work than the vocals. But you should be able to get the hang of where I'm going with it the minute you listen.

The particular set of lyrics I chose for it are:

STRANGE FRUIT
Lewis Allen

Southern trees bearin' strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the pop'l trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Other lyric versions can be seen here
and here.

Here's just some other music oriented pages
I'd like you to check out.

(Have a nice cyberjourney while you wait for this
page to get updated every once in a while, eh?)
