I was listening to an anti-racism webradio station today and
Billie Holliday's "Strange Fruit" came on. I love that song,
but the version I like even better was done by Nina Simone.
I figured I'd put up a page here which is kind of a tribute to Nina Simone but mostly a tribute to that song. I'm honestly not sure where this page will go from here; I guess you'll have to return every once in a while to see, eh?
Enjoy,

I sing a version here, [ .mp3 ] [ .rm ]
you might enjoy. My voice doesn't do what Nina's does so I focused
more on the guitar work than the vocals. But you should be able
to get the hang of where I'm going with it the minute you listen.
The particular set of lyrics I chose for it are:
STRANGE FRUIT
Southern trees bearin' strange fruit,
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, |
Other lyric versions can be seen here and here. Here's just some other music oriented pages I'd like you to check out.
