I saw The Moffatts at the Rock County Fair on July 30th, in Janesville Wisconsin. It was absolutely amazing!
We arrived there about 2 and a half hours early. We stood down in the "pit" area for a few minutes. There were 4 of us all together. My friend Sarah said to Jamie and I that she saw some girls in the back of the stage yelling and told us that maybe we should go check it out. So both of us walked back there and we were right next to their bus and camper/trailer thing. There were probably about 20 other girls there. We hung out there for a while and Shelia came out of the camper and started talking to us for a little while. She seems really cool.
So after she went back in we hung around for about 10 more minutes. Jamie and I were deciding on if we should go back. As we were thinking about it this goldish color mini-van pulls up. This mid-forty lady with super long hair comes out. After they opened the back door, Scott and Bob came out! I couldn't believe it. It was the first time I'd ever seen someone famous close up. (Don't worry, I didn't yell and freak out like some girls, I HATE teenies.) So we went over by them, I got some pics but I was by Scott and he tried to get away as fast as he could. He signed like one CD and posed for like 2 pictures and then he kept trying to walk away. He finally got on the other side of the wood railings (or whatever you wanna call them.) and said bye and stuff and went into the tour bus. Bob was still hanging out so Jamie and me went over by him. We took some pictures of him, but again, I couldn't get close enough for a signature because of some TEENIES who kept trying to kiss his cheek. (Do you think he liked that? No, I don't think so.) So finally we get close enough and Jamie asked him, "Hey Bob, can we get a picture?" He said sure and swings his free arm around Jamie and he just stood shoulder to shoulder with me cause me and Jamie were both trying to give someone our camera to take a picture, but NO girl would take it! They just sorta stood there and looked at us while other girls were bothering him behind us. I don't even think he realized that we didn't get a picture cuz other girls were taking ones of him, but no with OUR camera. So he said "Thanks." And tried to walk back to his bus again. The lady was saying to everyone "C'mon, let him go, we gotta get back." So he tried to get back and he finally made it back there. I think he was REALLY out of it cause he almost never said more than one word at a time. It was always, "Sure. Thanks. Uh-huh." I thought it was pretty funny. I don't blame him though. He's probably always tired. So teenies, if there is someone standing with a Moffatt, and they would REALLY like there picture taken with him and her friend, and they need someone to take their camera and take a picture… DO IT!
Any ways, so we went back by Sarah and Elysia (pronounced Alicia) and told them all about it. We stood around and we were about 3 or 4 rows back. People were just standing around so we kept trying to inch forward. Actually, Sarah ended up getting us to the second row. I was actually right next to the railing at one point, but I somehow ho back one, but we had great spots. We were by these AWESOME girls who hated teenies as much as we did. (Erica from a suburb by Chicago…if you read this, email me! You're the only name I can remember. I was the girl behind you that you took some pics for and decked for. You and your friends were awesome!)
So finally Mulberry Lane came out. They weren't anything big, but they said they were signing autographs after they preformed and stuff, so Sarah and Elysia decided that they wanted to go and do that. (They really aren't fans of The Moffatts, they really didn't even know who they were, except for me talking about them, they just decided to come with Jamie and I cuz we are all really good friends.)
So then it was Jamie and I waiting for the concert to start. After what seemed like forever, they came out. They started off with "Crazy." And continued with "Love" and "Let's Party." I totally rocked. I found it pretty amusing how Scott would shed a piece of clothing after each song. First the hat then the tie, then the shirt unbuttoned a little, then all the way, then totally off. They covered awesome songs, "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz, "Sandman" by Metallica, and song be Van Halen, "Song 2" by Blur. (One of my favorite songs actually.) plus some other ones. These guys are AWESOME musicians. I was SO impressed. I mean, I'm a pretty huge fan, so I know how good they are, but seeing them live was amazing. Do you know how hard the bass part is to "Fly Away?" Seeing Clint rock on to that was awesome. They also played "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynard Skynard, which was also awesome.
After Bob's amazing drum solo, the other 3 came back out. Before "Wild At Heart" Scott finally took his shirt all the way off. Is it just me, or is that boy always horny? He was practically feeling himself up on stage and sticking his butt out into the crowd, the whole works. Pretty funny. I guess you can say he really knows how to get a crowd going.
After they came out, Clint and Scott did their little "No, I can get more girls to scream for me than you." I hope you know what I'm talking about. Clint kept getting everyone to scream by acting like he was going to take his shirt off, but then never doing it.
They continued to rock and Scott has the nerve to say, "So, what do you think about the Packers this year? I'm a big Dallas Cowboy fan myself." People started laughing and we actually booed him! I bet that never happened to him before. The crowd yelled again after to let him know we were joking. (Lot me remind you he was in the middle of PACKER COUNTRY. Wisconsinites are psycho and fanatics about the Packers here, as you probably know. I really don't care about football or The Packers that much, so I thought the fact that he said that was hilarious. Dallas Cowboys are our big competition and rivals, so it was also pretty funny that he said he was a fan here.)
Then they played "Hey Mickey" which quickly turned into "Hey Scott, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind. Hey Scott! Hey Scott!" He then said, "Are you guys saying my name? Why, thank you very much." Like that hasn't happened at every show. I still thought it was pretty cute. They finally ended their set list and came back out and did an encore of cover songs including, "Wild Thing," and "Shine," by Collective Soul, which was also really awesome.
Then the concert was over. After finding Elysia and Sarah again (who were both pretty proud that they actually got personalized autographs and met and talked a while with Mulberry Lane.) Jamie and I bought an autographed CD and an 8X10 pic.
We met my mom and little brother and found out that she had actually watched the whole show from the bleacher seats. "You were down in that pit in 115 degree temperature standing up for 4 hours smushed with a hundred girls?" And sorta chuckled at me.
Walking back to the car she told me that she was really impressed with them. "They played my favorite Van Halen song! And ANY band that can pull off Lynard Skynard and do it well is impressive. I bet they'll be around for a long time Jen. They're a good band." I took that as a great compliment for The Moffatts and for me. My mom's never really been into my music. "They played my favorite song of theirs too." Then she went on to sing the chorus of "If Life Is So Short." I was like "What? How on earth do you know that song?" She said, "Well Jen, you only made me listen to the whole CD 3 times on the way here, so I sorta know some songs." Now it was my turn to laugh.
We made it back to my van and we continued to talk about the concert. Jamie and I were still in shock from the concert and how good it was, and that we actually kinda met Bob and Scott.
My friend Sarah couldn't get over laughing at the fact that Scott almost got knocked out by a water full water bottle that some girl threw directly at him. "The same thing happened to Stephen Jenkins when we saw Third Eye Blind." Sarah and I saw them earlier this year and it was the same type of set up, so we were really close to the stage for them also. Stephen got hit right in the forehead with a Pepsi cup, luckily for Scott he ducked.
The concert was awesome, definitely the best one I've ever been too (or at least until I see them in concert again.) and I've been to a lot. The Moffatts can really rock with the best of the rock bands, and aren't some whimpy boy band. I'll never forget this concert!
