Also, be aware that this is not the original version since I can't find
most
of what I wrote.
The song is "Two Worlds" by Phil Colins that was in Disney's Tarzan.
I used
it because I thought it would be a good addition to the series.
Though in
all reality it should be five worlds, not two : ).
All right, I just realized something. In "Changes" I mentioned
that Wade
was pregnant and never did anything with it. So, basically I'm
nilling that
and saying it never happened. (sorry)
All good things...

Put your faith in what you most believe in
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let fate decide
To guide these lives we see
A paradise untouched by man
Within this world blessed with love
A simple life they live in peace
Softly tread the sand below your feetnow
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let faith decide
To guide these lives we see
Beneath the shelter of the trees
Only love can enter here
A simple life, they live in peace
Raise your head up
Lift high the load
Take strength from those that need you
Build high the walls
Build strong the beams
A new life is waiting
But danger's no stranger here.
No words describe a mother's tears
No words can heal a broken heart
A dream is gone, but where there's hope
Somewhere something is calling for you
Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart
Let faith decide
To guide these lives we see
Kathryn looked around the nearly decimated ranch that was in the midst
of
being rebuilt. Since she and Chakotay had lent their ranch to
the defensive
force that had defeated the Kromaggs, they had a lot of help.
Chakotay came up from behind Kathryn and put his arms around her. "What
are
you thinking about?"
"Not much. Just wondering how the ranch got so messed up.
I mean, one
minute everything was fine and then it wasn't."
"Well, what do you expect when your in the middle of a battle.
At least
everyone is willing to help rebuild the ranch," Chakotay said, giving
Kathryn a squeeze.
Chapter 1
A few days later, thanks to all the help, the ranch was completely rebuilt.
Rembrandt, Maggie and Colin returned to the life of sliding in order
to help
restore order to the worlds that had been descimated by Kromagg rule.
Wade and Quinn had decided to stay on Luna, partly becauseof the kids
from
the Christa and also because neither had any wish to go on a crazy
spin
around the universe if they didn't have to, no matter if it would do
others
a lot of good.
A lot of people from both Voyager and the Star Gazer volunteered to
help,
wanting to have a last adventure before truely settling down on Luna.
After
Rembrandt and Maggie had set up a base on one of the Kromagg's worlds
that
had been , Quinn and Wade slid one last time, bringing Kathryn, Chakotay,
Tom, Be'lanna, Cassie, Jake, Marco, Rachel, Harlan, Bova, Catalina
and Rosie
along.
Everyone found it an absolutely amazing experience that brought the
whole
group closer, since it gave everyone at least a glimmer of what had
been
Quinn's life for four years and Wade's for three.
Life got back to a semblence of regularity after that.
Chakotay found Rachel sitting up above the ranch one afternoon looking
out
across the farm and beyond.
Chakotay sat down next to her and waited for Rachel to say something.
"I'm homesick... and lonely. I mean Jake's got Cassie and who
am I left
with? Marco. And I don't mean to offend him or anything,
but he's not my
kind of person. We just don't get along. Me and Tobias
get along
wonderfully, but I never aquired a red-talied hawk so we can't be together."
Chakotay put an arm around Rachel's shoulder. "Look, I know none
of us here
actually adopted your group, but if you ever need to talk to someone,
your
always welcome to come to me or Kathryn. I might not know much
about being
a teenager, but I'd be glad to listen to anything you need to get off
your
chest."
Rachel smiled and leaned against Chakotay. "Thank you Chakotay.
That means
a lot to me."
"So what are you doing up here?"
"Thinking. I've been thinking that since we're probably never
going to get
home, and I don't really like life here on the ranch. I mean,
you guys are
wonderful and everything, but I'm just not made for farm life."
"Then what do you want to do?"
"Honestly, I don't have any idea. I was thinking of using my morphing
ability and spending my life out as something, like maybe one of your
horses, but I mean it's just a thought."
"Well, before you decide anything like that, let me contact Rembrandt
and
the sliding team. They may have a way of finding your home."
"Could they?!"
"Don't get your hopes up. I don't know. But it's worth asking."

When you're alone
And nobody's there to take you through the night
Oh when nothing's right,
Call out my name.
Oh don't be ashamed to say you need a hand;
I understand, Baby.
Sometimes the night can be so dark and cold,
No one beside you
And no one to hold.
Hold on, hold on.
When you cry,
I will dry your eyes,
When you fall,
I'll lift you up high.
You just reach
For these arms of mine,
I promise they won't let you go.
And I'll make you smile when you cry.
You're always strong,
Always got a hand to lend to someone else,
Don't need no one else.
What about all those times
When that heart inside is crying out for love
For someone, Baby
Someone to lean on when the tears start to fall,
Lean on me and I'll see you through it all.
Just hold on, hold on.
When you cry,
I will dry your eyes.
When you fall,
I'll lift you up high.
You just reach
For these arms of mine,
I promise they won't let you go.
And I'll make you smile
When you cry.
Hold on to me
When you're not feeling strong
Hold on, hold on.
When you cry,
I will dry your eyes.
When you fall,
I will lift you up high.
You just reach
For these arms of mine, Baby,
I promise they won't let you go.
When you cry.
Author's note: this song is called "When You Cry" by Faith Hill and
I found
it in the Touched by an Angel soundtrack.

Chakotay sent a message the next afternoon. The next day they
got a reply.
"I'm sorry, but there is no way to determine the world where they came
from," Chakotay said, reading the note they had recieved at dinner
that
evening. "We have no way of helping them."
A week later, Rachel decided to go ahead with what she had been thinking
about before what was to spend the rest of her life as an animal.
The rests of the animorphs nearly had a fit when they found out what
she had
decided.
"We either all do something or none of us do something, Rachel.
You know
that," Jake said after she told them what she planned to do.
"I know, but I don't want to force any of you guys to do anything.
I mean,
that may have been true when we were fighting the Yeerks, but now this
is
only a decision I can make. This is what I want to do with
my life, and
I'm not going to change my mind."
"We'll join you Rachel," Cassie said speaking for the rest of the group.
"I
mean, no matter what you think, we're still a team... and as much as
I hate
to admit it, I'm not very comfortable here on Luna either. It's
just too
weird. No offense meant," she said, glancing at Kathryn and Chakotay.
"None taken," Kathryn said, glancing at Chakotay.
"Yeah, we're all behind you on this Rachel," Jake said and Marco nodded.
"The question is, what is going to be our last morph?"
"You know, I've been thinking. What about centaurs? It would
still allow
us to be human but give us animal qualities."
"What's a centaur?" Kathryn asked.
"It's an old Earth legend about a creature who's half-man, half-horse.
That's the one your talking about right?" Chakotay asked.
Rachel nodded. "Right. The only question is, can we pull it off?"
Jake shrugged. "I don't know. None of us have ever tried
something like
that. It's worth a try though."
"But I'm the only one with a horse morph."
"It's fine with me if the rest of you use the horses on the ranch,"
Chakotay
said.
The four animorphs glanced at each other. "Well, I guess
that settles it.
We'll try it tomorrow," Jake said.
"I can try it now," Cassie said. "I mean I already have a horse morph."
A minute later she was stripping down to her morphing outfit.
She stepped
off the porch and onto the lawn so she'd have more room. She
clossed her
eyes and a half-minute later a centaur stood in her place.
"Woah. That feels weird," Cassie said. "Well, at least we
know it works."
She tried walking and nearly fell over, having to catch herself on
the
railing.
"What's wrong?" Jake asked.
"Wow. Now I know why it feels strange. I'm by myself.
There's no other
half."
"So basically we have to learn to walk all over again," Jake said with
a
sigh.
"I'm going to change back again," Cassie said and a moment later she
was
back to her usual self.
"Look let's wait till tomorrow to morph. I mean then we'll have
all day to
learn to walk again."
"Besides, it's getting late and we've got lots of work to do tomorrow,"
Kathryn said. "And I think I know of two girls who are falling
asleep," she
said, motioning to Phoebe and Elizabeth, who were nodding off.
++++++++++
The next day, all four of the animorphs morphed into centaurs, with
Cassie
taking another horse morph, this time from the ranch and using that.
They had all decided to morph naked since, when Cassie had morphed the
night
before, she had still been wearing her outfit on top, and none of them
wanted to be stuck in it for the rest of their lives. Instead,
the girls
decided to wear sport bras on top and the boys nothing.
It took all four of them a few days to relearn to walk again, with Chakotay
and Tom's help.
Everyone was generally happy though after that with their choice of animal.
Chapter 2
Neelix hailed the approaching Federation ship from the Delta Flyer which
he
had borrowed for a trading mission. He had been on his way out
when he
noticed the Federation ship heading towards Luna at impulse.
"Neelix to unidentified Federation vessel. Welcome to Luna.
Can I be of
assistance?"
Almost immediately a reply came back. "USS Dauntless to Delta
Flyer. Thank
you for the welcome. May I ask what you're doing out here?
We had the
impression that not many people left Luna."
"Not many do, that is true. But I do leave Luna every once in
a while on
trading missions to a few planets in this area."
"Well thank you for the welcome. Are we far from Luna?"
"No. In fact, at the pace your going, you should reach Luna in
about an
hour."
"Thanks for the info. We have a lot of family members on board
who are
anxtious to see the former members of the Voyager crew."
"Well, everyone one of them will be glad to see you. No one knew
you were
coming, did you know that?"
"Yes, we did actually. We wanted it that way, actually.
We wanted it to be
a big surprise for them."
"May I ask whom I speaking to?"
"Of course. My name is Admiral Paris."
"Tom's father?!"
"Well, yes actually. You know him?"
"I know all of the former crew members of Voyager. I should.
I was the
morale officer on Voyager. I think Tom will be glad to see you
though. You
should be very proud of him. He's changed a lot in the last seven
or eight
years. He's become a really good family member."
"I know. Kathryn's mother shared her message with me. It
mentioned that
Kathryn was very proud of Tom and all the way he had come."
"Have you come to visit him?"
"Well, that, and talk to Kathryn about her resignation from Starfleet."
"Well, I need to be on my way. It was nice talking to you."
"Yes it was. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me."
++++++++++
An hour later, two figures materialized onto the field. Wade,
Catalina,
Rosie and Rachel were talking on the porch when they showed up.
"What the..." Wade said, standing up.
"Sorry to startle you. Umm..." Admiral Paris said, noticing Rachel.
"Can we do something for you?" Wade asked.
"Well, actually we were looking for Kathryn. I'm her sister Phoebe
and this
is Admiral Paris," Phoebe said, staring at Rachel.
Rachel just rolled her eyes. "Oh give me a break," she said under
her
breath, unfolding her legs from under her and walking over to where
the pair
was standing. "Hi," she said, holding her hand out. "I'm
Rachel."
After the pair just continued to stare at her she just started walking
off
toward the barn. "I'm going to go find Cassie. We'll talk
later," she
said, galloping off.
Wade walked off the porch toward the pair who were still staring after
Rachel. "Umm, what was that?" Admiral Paris asked.
"Surely, you heard of the Animorphs before you arrived? Well,
about a week
ago, they decided that since they had no way of going home, that they
would
use their morphing abilities to permanantly change into an animal.
Well,
they all decided on centaurs. And in the process found out they
could mesh
together human and animal characteristics, but they all decided to
stick
with centaurs. Anyways, I'll take you to Kathryn. She'll
be glad to see
you Phoebe."
"I'm sure she will," Phoebe said, finally turning away from the direction
Rachel had taken off in.
Catalina and Rosie had come down off the porch and were watching (and
listening, in the case of Rosie) to the conversation.
Five minutes later, they found Kathryn working in her garden.
She had her
back turned to them so she couldn't see who was with Wade.
"Kathryn," Wade said, getting her attention. "A couple people
are here to
see you."
Kathryn stood up, wiped her hands on the overalls she was wearing and
turned
around.
"Phoebe!" she said, almost rushing forward to hug her sister.
"How did you
get here?"
"Actually, Captain, we brought many family members out here for the
former
members of Voyager," Admiral Paris said, stepping forward as Phoebe
and
Kathryn stopped hugging.
"Please Admiral. Just Kathryn. I take it you are here to
talk to me about
resigning?"
Admiral Paris nodded. "Yes. I'm also here to see my son.
But work takes
prescedence over family. Is there somewhere we can go and talk?"
"Sure. We can talk up at the house," Kathryn said, leading them
towards the
house. "Wade, would you mind going to find Chakotay? He
might want to join
us."
Wade nodded and headed toward the barn.
++++++++++
Five minutes later, they were all sitting around the kitchen table waiting
for Chakotay to join them.
"We met Rachel. I thought you only had humans and horses here
on the
ranch," Admiral Paris said as they waited.
"Well, that used to be true. Now we have four centaurs here too.
You could
kind of say they're the founders of a new species."
"How strange. Just so you know Kathryn, I have some things for
you, though
they're up in the ship still."
"Like what?"
Phoebe grinned. "You'll just have to wait and see."
Chakotay came in then, kissed Kathryn and sat down next to her.
"Wade told
me we had company. What's up?"
"Chakotay, meet my sister Phoebe. Phoebe, this is my husband Chakotay."
"Nice to meet you Phoebe," Chakotay said.
"Hey, any husband of my sister's gets a hug," Phoebe said, standing
up to
hug Chakotay.
After they had broken apart, a bewildered Chakotay sat back down next
to
Kathryn. "Also, this is Admiral Paris."
"Nice to meet you sir," Chakotay said, shaking Paris's hand.
"It's nice to meet you to, Chakotay. Now, getting down to business,
a lot
of people are curious as to why you left starfleet. I've not
only come here
to find out why exactly but to see if there is any way to persuade
you to
return to life as a captain."
"Let me start off by saying no. There is no way I'd evver return
to life as
a starfleet captain. It's not that I didn't enjoy it sometimes,
but I love
my life here. I have a wonderful family that is growing bigger
all the
time, a loving husband, and a wonderful daughter. No matter what,
I cannot
ignore the fact that for some reason Luna is thefocal point in this
dimension for sliding, and while I'm not involved personally in helping
out
all the worlds that have been devestated by Kromaggs, I have a duty
to
remain here and help any and all refugees that arrive here either as
orphans, a new family or those even just needing medical attention.
I
cannot leave until the Kros reign of terror has been completely whiped
out.
It makes no difference that I do not know any of them, or that they
aren't
even from the right era, but we do need to lend help to those who need
it
and there are so many out there, that it might take a lifetime of hard
work
to get to them all and dissolve the Kromagg Dynasty forever."
"Wow," Phoebe said quietly.
"What's a Kromagg?" Admiral Paris asked.
"They're a race of near-humans that were out to conquest every Earth
out
there. Unfortunately for them, Qunn, Maggie, Colin and Rembrandt
arrived
here, and not long after that, so did Wade," Kathryn went over to the
mantle, where there was a few momentos, including the timer, along
with her
and Chakotay's communicators from Voyager, and a model of the Christa
in a
bottle that was replicated from the sensor records they had taken before
the
Christa had left orbit, and a model of a red-tailed hawk.
Kathryn took down the timer and handed it to the Admiral. "They
came here
with the help of this. And after Quinn and Wade permanantly moved
here,
they presented their timer to us for a Christmas present. We
had already
started our collection of things up on the mantle that represents each
of
the groups that live here on the ranch: our communicators for me, Chakotay,
Tom and Be'lanna; a model of the Christa for Harlan, Bova, Rosie and
Catalina; the red-tailed hawk for Jake, Marco, Rachel, Cassie and their
friend, who is a red-tailed hawk, Tobias. They said that since
they weren't
going to do any more sliding they wanted us to have their timer."
"I thought you said there were five sliders."
"There are," Wade said as she came in, Quinn with her, and sat down
in an
extra seat with Quinn next to her. "Actually there are six of
us. The
Professor doesn't live on the ranch though. He lives over in
Los Angeles
and works as a teacher. Colin, Maggie and Rembrandt are out helping
the
refugees that the Kros created."
"Why aren't you out there with them?"
"Actually I'm kind of surprised Remmy and Maggie are out there," Quinn
said.
"Rembrandt has been sliding with us from the beginning, and
Maggie has
been with us for three years. But the reason we aren't out there
is that
we're sick of the life that sliding creates. We've seen so much
and there's
so much I want to forget that went wrong out there that we just want
to lead
a quiet life now."
"Both of us have enough memories, both good and bad ones, to last lifetimes.
That's one of the more unfortunate side affects of sliding.
You're never
in one place for long. We were lucky to find this place so that
we can have
a regular life, but there are some things we'll never forget and there
are
some things that we certainly want to," Wade said.
"Would you guys be willing to write a book about your experiences with
sliding? I think a lot of people would be really interested in
something as
unique as that," the Admiral asked.
Wade and Quinn glanced at each other before Quinn answered. "Just
as long
as we don't have to do a whole lot with the Kros, I think we could.
The
Kros are where some of our worst memories lie. Maybe we could
even get the
Professor and Rembrandt to write a few chapters."
"Man, I haven't talked to the Professor in a long time."
"Me either."
"Well, I think I have all the information I need, at least for now.
I can
see you're obviously not going to change your mind Kathryn. We
are going to
be here for a week at least. I'd like to talk to my son, if I
can."
"I'll be glad to take you out to the barn," Quinn said.
The Admiral followed Quinn out the door.
"So what do you have for us?"
"Well, for one thing, a rather big surprise. I'm going to stay
here. I'm
not going back to Earth. Mom wanted to come too, but she has
a lot going on
right now and she hopes to come on a later trip out here. Eventually,
we'll
all be a family again. I'm hoping that will be in a few years."
"Oh, Phoebe," Kathryn said, giving her sister a hug. "It's going
to be nice
to have a family member out here."
Chakotay cleared his throat. "What about me? Am I not considered
a family
member?"
"Of course you are Chakotay. I just meant, someone from Earth."
"What about me? I could fit that bill," Wade said, trying not
to laugh, but
not doing a very good job of it.
"I meant MY Earth," Kathryn said, smiling at Wade.
Chakotay and Wade shared a grin.
"Moving on," Phoebe said, rolling her eyes. "There's another ship
following
the Dauntless that is setting up the network of relay stations so that
people can talk in real-time to the Alpha Quadrant. When it arrives
here,
we should be able to talk directly with Mom, and not just send a message
to
her."
"Wow," Chakotay said. "That must be new technology. I mean
it was just a
relay station before, but now we can actually speak with people in
the Alpha
Quadrant."
"I wouldn't know. Also, Mom sent some things for you.
Unfortunately
they're all up on the Dauntless still. And with us arriving today,
the
transporter's going to be filled up. They actually had to section
off time
for people. I was rather lucky, since me and the Admiral were
going to the
same place and the fact that I'm the sister of the former Captain of
Voyager. But since people are still beaming down, I'm going to
have to wait
a few hours before I can beam down everything Mom sent with me."
"That's fine. There's no hurry. In the meantime, I can give
you a tour of
the ranch."
++++++++++
That evening after dinner, they were finally able to beam down the three
loads of stuff Phoebe had brought with her.
"I need some help over here," she said from the third shipment.
Kathryn ran over, along with Quinn, Wade and Chakotay.
"Here Kathryn," Phoebe said, putting a squirming bundle into her arms.
"What the?"
"33 descendents of Bear is only part of what Mom sent with me."
"What?! She sent dogs on a three year journey?"
"I tried to talk her out of it, but she insisted. Apparently,
she's
planning on bringing Bear herself when Mom comes out, or at least that's
what she told me."
"Fifteen descendents? How big was the original litter?"
"Ten, but Mom gave away most of it. We just couldn't keep the
whole thing,
despite the fact that Mom wanted to. We kept 4. Originally
I was just
supposed to have those four with me, but they multiplied on the trip,"
Phoebe said sheepishly as they continued unloading the dogs out of
their
crates.
"You let them inbreed?"
"No, I didn't let them just inbreed. I do know better than that.
There
were quite a few other dogs on the trip, and we intermixed them."
The younger Phoebe and Elizabeth had both come over and were both holding
one of the puppies and laughing as their faces were licked.
"How in the world are we going to find homes for thirty dogs?"
"I honestly don't know. There are a number of options. Keep
quite a few on
the ranch for one thing. I mean, you guys do have the room."
Rachel actually picked up another of the puppies and had it on her back.
*What the heck is going on?* Tobias asked, swooping down out of the
sky to
land in one of the nearby trees. *Everyone's been going crazy
all day all
over the place. I can't get any rest!*
"Tobias!" Rachel and Cassie said together.
*Rachel?! What the heck happened to you?*
"I'll explain later. Apparently there's some visitors from Earth
though.
Come over here and I'll introduce you to them," she said, holding out
her
arm for him to land on.
After a moment's hesitation, Tobias flew over and landed on her arm.
Rachel
walked over to where the rest of the group was still unloading all
the dogs.
"Tobias, meet Phoebe, Kathryn's sister, and Admiral Paris."
Tobias bobbed his head in greeting. *Hi. But no one's answered
my question
yet of why I can't get any rest.*
Kathryn explained what was going on as she continued working.
*All right. That would make a lot of sense. So what happened
to you and
Cassie, Rachel?*
Rachel explained what the group had decided and what had prompted them
to
try out a new form.
*All right. Well, I'm going to go and try and get some rest now.*
"Tobias, would you like to go back to Earth when we head back in about
a
week?"
That stopped Tobias from taking off. *Yes I would. I would
like that very
much. Would you be willing to take me with you?*
"Sure. I should warn you though. It's not a short trip.
It takes about
three years."
*I have no problem with that. When should I come back?*
"You can transport up now if you'd like."
*All right. Just let me say goodbye.*
He stopped broadcasting and started speaking to just Rachel and Cassie.
*Do
you guys mind that I'm leaving for Earth?*
"Why would we. It makes you happy and you'll be with others of
your kind.
You've never been happy here Tobias, and we want you to. I may
not be
perfectly happy here, but I have no wish to leave anymore so I probably
won't ever leave for Earth, but I can certainly understand your wish
to. I
won't force youu to stay here, and neither will Cassie, Jake, or Marco.
You'll be where you belong. This is really where we belong."
Tobias rubbed up against Rachel's arm. *Thanks for understanding.
Speaking
of them, where are Jake and Marco? I'd like to say goodbye to
them too.*
"I'm not sure. They both kind of went off on their own after we
decided to
change forms. We haven't seen them for a while."
*Well, all right. Tell them I said bye when you eventually see them.*
"I will. You have a wonderful time on Earth and keep us up-to-date
as to
what your up to, all right? I mean, have someone send us a message
every
once in a while."
*Of course. Thanks for your friendship, Rachel and you too Cassie.
It's
been a big help these last few years, especially after I became stuck
in
this body.*
"It was our pleasure, Tobias. You've been a great friend and we
all wish
you a happy life."
Tobias almost sighed. *I guess I'm ready now.*
A minute later, The Admiral and Tobias transported up to the Dauntless.
"Aren't you guys sorry that he's left?" Phoebe asked, a little surprised
at
Rachel and Casssie's seemingly indifference.
"Of course we are. But we just haven't seen him enough lately
that we
really would truely be sad. I'm happy for him because he's going
back to
Earth, which is where he belongs. He doesn't belong on Luna where
there are
no other hawks."
Phoebe nodded. "That makes sense."
"What did Mom expect me to do with 33 dogs?" Kathryn asked.
"Maybe spread them out among the former crewmembers of Voyager?
I mean, it
would remind them a lot of Earth and the Alpha Quadrant," Rachel said.
"That's a great idea Rachel. I think we've found homes for a few
of them
already," Kathryn said nodding to where phoebe and Elizabeth were both
holding puppies.
Author's note: from here on out I'm going to differentiate between the
two
Phoebe's by Phoebe being Kathryn's sister and phoebe being Kathryn's
daughter.
"I want one too," Cassie said with a grin.
"I guess we'll take one too," Tom said, since Be'lanna was holding one
and
nearly grinning.
"We too," Quinn said.
"All right that's six, since I'm guessing you want one too, Rachel?"
Rachel grinned. "Of course."
All right. I guess we'll keep 10 of them. I'd like one of
the older ones
and I'm sure we can find ways to keep all ten. I'll send messages
out
tonight. We can keep the dogs in the barn for tonight with the
horses. At
least they'll be warm there."
