Teresa
Bryan Peneguy Paprock was born and raised in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. She graduated from Brown Deer High School in 1982, and
from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in 1986
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Psychology. She spent the first 10 years of her career at
daily newspapers, first at the Marinette Eagle-Star and then at the Beloit Daily
News, where she did business reporting, feature writing, education reporting,
and photography. She won several journalism awards while she was there, one for
a humor column and two for education stories. She was also named one of the
Stateline Area’s Favorite Reporters two years in a row. Teresa spent a year as editor of the
Janesville Messenger and the Stateline Shopping News, then moved to Madison,
where she joined the then brand-new employment publication, NOW HIRING. She
began her tenure there in advertising sales, but eventually became editor of the
publication. She also managed
internal communications at TDS-CS. After working as a writer and project manager
for EDS, Teresa joined the Energy Center of Wisconsin as a writer/editor and a
marketing coordinator. In 2001, she played a large role in the creation and
design of ECW's new website, the Information
Clearinghouse. In March 2002, Teresa became the
Communications Director for Easter
Seals Wisconsin . In addition to designing publications and
overseeing public relations, she manages the organization’s website. Around her full-time work, Teresa has
maintained her freelance business, words & stuff, for seven years.
She has provided promotional materials and articles for the Wisconsin State
Journal, Capital Times, Madison Magazine, Wisconsin Academy Review, The Edge, Beloit Inner
City Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Anew, Indian Orthodox Herald, Distance
Learning, Rhythm, CUNA, Explore Indian Country, Wisconsin Woman, and SCREEN
Magazine in Chicago. In addition, she and her husband co-wrote a book, "Sacred
Sites of Wisconsin" published by Trails Books (formerly
Wisconsin Trails). They are at work on their second book,
"Sacred Sites of Minnesota," due out in 2003. Teresa has developed special expertise in writing about the subjects of mental health, alcohol and other drug recovery issues, religion and spirituality, disabilities, health, social issues, children and youth, K-12 education, psychology, entertainment, and energy efficiency. Over the years she has been the recipient of the Wisconsin Better Newspapers award, Wisconsin Association of School Boards award, Alpha Epsilon Rho award for radio documentary, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Communications Award of Special Merit, and was named one of the Stateline Area's favorite journalists two years in a row. Her past and present organizational
affiliations include Cub Scout Pack 540 Middleton (leader), Recovery Inc., the Madison Chapter of
the International Association of Business Communicators, Women in
Communications, Wisconsin Communicators Council, the Madison Area Freelance Editors and Writers, and Teresa married the Rev. John-Brian Paprock in
Queens, New York, in June 1998.
