Name: Adam Charles Clayton

Nickname: Sparky

Born: March 13, 1960 in Oxfordshire, England (the family moved to Malahide, Dublin when Adam was 5)

Family: Girlfriend Suzie Smith, who is Paul McGuinness' assistant. Ex-fiance supermodel Naomi Campbell. Parents Brian and Jo Clayton. Brother Sebastian and sister Sarah Jane who are both younger. They moved to Dublin after his father got a job as an airpilot with Aer Lingus.

Adam Charles Clayton never liked school. When he reached high school age (possibly after he was expelled from the boarding school), he was enrolled in Mount Temple. Adam had more "fun" at Mount Temple. He took to wearing hippie clothing, streaking through the hallways, and hung out with the "cool" crowd.

School never interested Adam, he had great plans of becoming a comedian or a musician, so jumped at the chance to join 'Feedback'. Once in the band (he was the only bassist that showed up), he threw everything he had at making it successful. Adam impressed each of them by using terms like "gig", "jam", and "fret action" and baffled the others.

Adam then left Mount Temple (by mutual agreement of both the school and Adam, had he stayed he probably would have been expelled) which gave him the time and oppertunity to act as U2's manager before he found, and convinced, Paul McGuinness for the job. He was the only member who wasn't going to leave or was recommended to leave the band in the early years.

Always the party animal, Adam was the only member of U2 to ever really get into trouble. Often waking up in places other than his bed, Adam gained quite a reputation in those early days.

When Bono married Alison Stewart on August 22, 1982 he asked Adam to be his best man.

Around 1985, Adam was arrested and charged for a traffic offence. He was arrested again on August 6th 1989, when he was discovered with 19 grams of cannabis, and charged with "possession with intent to supply", which was later reduced to merely possession. He was pleaded guilty and ordered by the court to pay a 25,000 pound fine to a local Women's charity. Once he did his record was cleared, and he swore to never have anything to do with anything like that again.

In 1993 Adam began dating supermodel Naomi Campbell. As soon as that was announced publicly it was off.

Part babysitter/part buddy Larry then made sure that Adam kept on the straight and narrow. During a year long break U2 took, Adam and Larry moved to New York to study music and search for themselves. They recorded the title track to the 'Mission Impossible' soundtrack, and came back to U2 ready to create and be full members once again.

In 1997 it was revealed that Bono calls Adam "Sparky" although no one has a clue as to why.
