Nickname: The Edge

Born: August 8, 1961 in East London (His Family moved to Malahide, a suburb of Dublin, when he was one)

Family: Wife Aislinn O'Sullivan, although he has been separated since 1991. Daughters Holly (born 1985), Arun (born 1986) and Blue Angel (born 1989). Girlfriend Morleigh Steinberg, (the bellydancer from the ZooTV show during "Mysterious Ways"). Daughter Sian (born October 2, 1997), and son Levi (1999). Parents Garvin and Gwenda Evans. Brother Dick who is 2 years older and sister Gill who is younger.

David Howell Evans was born August 8th 1961, at Barking Maternity Hospital East London, to Garvin and Gwenda Evans. He has an older brother, Richard (aka Dick from the Virgin Prunes) and a younger sister Gill. The Evans' later moved to Ireland, and Dave eventually was enrolled at Mount Temple High School.

Dave was always a bit of a loner. He went along to U2's first meeting with his brother, Dick, and a guitar they had built themselves. Dick eventually left the band to join another band (The Virgin Prunes), and that left Dave as lead guitar player. He was christened "The Edge" by Bono because, as Bono said, he was "always on the Edge of things, an observer" and later said it was because of the lines of his face, his razor sharp jaw. Its also been suggested that its because his playing is "the cutting edge", or because his playing is clean and clinging, full of edges.

Edge is extremely intelligent, and did well at school. He decided not to go to university and was extremely happy with the band and his life until 1981 when he became (along with Bono and Larry) a member of the Shalom bible group. As a devout christian, he began to feel internal conflict over his faith and his "rock and roll lifestyle". U2's future was very uncertain at this point, Edge wasn’t the only member unable to align his beliefs and the band, and the album "October" was recorded in that atmosphere. Through 2 or 3 weeks away from the band itself after Bono went for a walk and told him to follow his heart, Edge realised that U2's success was something he wanted too much to give up.

In July, 1983 Edge married early U2 groupie Aislinn O'Sullivan and they had three girls together. Unfortunately they were separated in 1990, although they remain friends for the sake of their children. It is rumored that Bono wrote the song "So Cruel" about Aislinn, the recording of "Achtung Baby" took place during their separation. They were legally divorced in 1996, after a vote that made divorce legal in Ireland.

In 1993 Morleigh Steinberg was chosen as the belly dancer for the "Zoo TV" tour. Edge and Morliegh had began dating and later into a full relationship.
