A few words from Ed Garvey

“This is really an old fight. Fifteen to twenty years ago they wanted to build the same line,” said Garvey. “The Public Service Commission had lots of hearings and discussions and came out against it because they said the power wasn’t needed. Now the power companies come back, using the reliability argument, citing an influx of tourism in Rhinelander. They will repeat this argument and repeat it and repeat it until some of you may think we’re going to go dark if we don’t have that power line.” What’s going on, said Garvey, is that Minnesota Power and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation want to bring this power from Canada for use in Chicago, New York or Vermont. “But they’ll tell you it is to help people in Wisconsin. I have seen nothing to indicate that they need this power except for one single thing called The Crandon Mine. They think they’re going to have that mine eventually. I’m here to tell you that we’re not going to have the Crandon Mine in Wisconsin.”
