Wisconsin Public Service Corporation had several closed door luncheons in areas effected by the transmission line. Invited to the closed door luncheons were some business leaders and public officials. Persons who were known to be opposed to the project were not welcome to attend. During the luncheons WPSC staff handed out packets to all in attendance. Included within each packet there was a list of supposed supporters of the power line project. (I.E., Businesses, Schools, etc.) It has now come to our attention that several and possibly the majority of the supposed supporters list was false. It has also come to our attention that several of the individuals listed as supporters are known to be employees of WPSC. Below is a letter sent to one of the businesses erroneously included in WPSC's list of supposed supporters of the transmission line.

Dear Mr. Hoglund:

This is to inform you that we made a mistake by listing your business as a "supporter" of the transmission line project we are proposing to build from Wausau to Duluth. We apologize for any inconvenience this listing may have caused.

Here's what happened. We have been encouraging customers who would benefit from this proposed project to write letters to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW), the state's utility regulators. The PSCW will make the final decision on the power line project. Our Communications Department has been keeping a master listing of those entities that wrote support letters.

Recently, we received a list from our customer field reps who were contacting commercial and industrial electric customers and informing then about the project. There was a misinterpretation of the 'Letters Sent" column on the rep's list. The Communications Department interpreted "Letters Sent" to mean "from the customer to the PSCW." The correct interpretation should have been "from our WPSC field rep to the customer."

To date, Wisconsin Public Service has received about 350 copies of project support letters from legislators, businesses, unions, individuals and local governments. We have double-checked our list to make sure, from this point on, we are accurate in our listing.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you do have any questions regarding this matter or about the proposed project, please feel free to give me a call.

Thanks,

Sincerely.
