Kernel32.dll Problems with Browsers

Whether it be Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, browsers--especially the later and latest versions--are the applications that seem to be most likely to cause kernel32.dll problems.
First, you should go to Microsoft Personal Online Support, where you can find some possible fixes, but they only solve a fraction of the problems. Getting around the problem seems the only thing left to do.

Switching to another browser can be a solution, but it seldomly works if you trade Internet Explorer for Netscape Navigator, or vice versa. Downgrading can make crashes less frequent; you can download older versions at the Browser Archive, where you can also find virtually every browser outside of the big two, including number three, Opera.

If you wanna stick to what you have, Norton Utilities offers a makeshift: it has a Quick Reload function, which means that in case of a crash you can restart your browser on the last Webpage you visited with just a mouseclick--it doesn't always work, though, but it makes life somewhat easier. (WARNING: if you already have Norton Utilities on your system and you want to install Internet Explorer 5.0, you should disable Norton Protection.)

Using a download manager can also alleviate the crashing pain: if your browser causes a page fault while downloading, you don't have to start the download all over (in most cases).

Some people get a lot of invalid page faults with the mail program that comes with their browser, especially Outlook Express. The most effective way of dealing with this is using another (free) mail program, for instance Eudora Light.
