Some utility programs have the ability to lessen the amount of crashes, and/or to give you a chance to save your work before the obligatory shutdown after a crash. As far as we know, none of these programs are able to ward off every crash, so this is not a waterproof method--it's not even a method, really, it's just a way to try to contain the problem. And even so, you won't entirely contain it, for instance when the utility program itself causes the dreaded page fault--usually when shutting down, so it doesn't really matter, but still, it's a reminder. |
