REFLECTIONS OF RURAL LIFE

Puff

This kind old gentleman is a favorite of the children at the stables where he lives. Puff, in the twilight of his years is a picture of gentleness which is what attracts the children to him. His kind eye and sweet personality and slow ways helps build confindence in even the most timid of beginners. Hence, I portray him dozing on a warm early summer day in the shade of a large maple tree amoungst the dandelions. This piece is a 5"x7" watercolor.

Red Boy

Then there is Red Boy who is your typical little pony terror with an innocent face. Red Boy acts like a horse in pony clothes. But when he is good he is good and when he is naughty, watch out. I couldn't help but portray the sweetness lurking under that little spotted stinker coat. Red Boy is loved by all who know him, just like the child who is always into mischief.

Fjord Horse

This little horse caught my eye at a field day held at a local farm. There horse farmers gather to plow, disc and plant a farmers field, all the while showing what their horses can do, competing in contests such as straightest furrows. It is a wonderful event to attend and see the way horses used to be used as a part of daily life on a farm. And Fjords have the heart and strength to keep up with the big boys plus are smaller and can be used as a riding horse also. Fjords are seeing a comeback to the everyday uses and seeing them jump a fence in a hunter class or plowing a field shows the versatility of this ancient breed. This colored pencil is 5x7 and is for sale.
