A Californian man has been charged with interfering with flight crew after he became involved in an altercation with a flight attendant and a pilot onboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Detroit to Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old man apparently believed that the crew of the aircraft was practising witchcraft and black magic and refused to fasten his seatbelt. He reportedly shoved the pilot after an altercation with a flight attendant, resulting in the flight making an unscheduled landing in Denver.

The flight was delayed for about four hours in Denver and the man, who has apparently signed an affidavit describing the crew as 'evil', faces 20 years in prison if convicted.

The man was later involved in an altercation with eight US marshals when he was brought to appear in a Denver courthouse according to Reuters.
