Sansom Related PhotosEmma was known as the 'Sunbonnet Heroine of the Civil War' and has a monument in front of the Upshur Co., Texas courthouse. Buried in the Little Mound Cemetery, outside of Gilmer, Tx. is Confederate heroine Emma Sansom Johnson (1847-1900), who at age 16 led Gen. N. B. Forrest's troops across the Black River in her native state of Alabama to attack Federal forces. Emma is my husband's 3rd great aunt. |
