Lots 51-60
LOT 51--This is the blue crepe gown which Diana wore in 1996 on a trip to New York for the banquet honoring her friend Liz Tiberus. It stirred attention but more so was her slicked down hairdo. This single time she wore it, her favorite sapphire and diamond choker added glamour to the simple style.
The neckline has satin braiding and the lowcut back has overlapping straps. Designed by Catherine Walker, it sold for $36,800. LOT 51. Its available in miniature on a Franklin Mint Porcelain Diana doll.
Lot 52 -In March 1989 Diana wore a Catherine Walker design to Kuwait. It is raw silk with beaded multi colored bodice. At that time, she wore the Spencer Tiara with it. As seen above.
She also wore it May 11 1989 at Claridges for the banquet for the Nigerian President. Her hair was swept upand again her accesories were the Spencer tiara and simple strand of pearls.
By 1992, the dress had been altered then by Walker into a straight lavendar sheath with the bolero-style bodice. Diana debuted that version in 1992 at the glittering Gala that marked Queen Elizabth's 40 year reign.
Again it was seen during
the controversial Korean visit in 1992 when Diana and Charles estrangement
was visible to all. Photos of that time (like the one above) show
her forlorn and weary appearance. The spencer tiara again was her accessory.
