city

view from 16F & 18F of Siam Square Soi 6 - clarity of pictures inversely proportional to thickness of Bangkok smog & dirt on hotel windows =)

[L-R] southeast towards Sathon across e Royal Bangkok Sports Club race course & golf course; south towards Sam Yan & Patpong across e Chualalongkorn University campus

[L-R] west towards Mahboonkhrong; across Siam Square towards Saphan Khao; northwest towards BTS Ratchathewi station

[L-R] northwest towards Siam Discovery Center; north towards Pratunam across Siam Paragon construction site; northeast towards Ploenchit across Wat Patum Wanaram

[L-R] Mahboonkhrong, where tourists have driven prices up. tiny countdown display near bottom right shows 143 seconds left before e traffic lights change; sore shop @ Siam Square; no hawking, weighing scales or Libras @ BTS Siam skytrain station

[L-R] Ministry of Defence guarded by cannons, Thanon Sanam Chai; Wat Chakkrawat, where Jim's mother grew up together with other unwanted kids fostered by Lao Yi, through e kitchen window of Jim's shop along Soi Wanit 1

sukhumvit soi 101/1

where many happy hours were spent in e factory & e study room of e house with Jim, Oke, Oh, Pon, Dej, Kip, Kok, Taam, other cousins & factory workers, after all moved over from e old shophouses along Sukhumvit Soi 36. Kok is in Australia & Taam is serving in e army, no chance to meet them. all so touched to find our photo taken during Lao Yi's birthday dinner displayed among their collection of family photos, albeit faded after ~15 years.

[L-R] 'where is e house?', Heidi asked =P 8 years ago there were hardly any plants when we brought Joyce from Scotland for a visit; Jim came to our Lagoon View home in Singapore as a 13 year old girl, she now lives here with her husband, daughter & son. Dej wasn't born yet during our first visit, he now studies at Bangkok University & stays on e 2nd floor; view of house from e back

[L-R] entrance to factory office, where I could disappear, hidden among piles of delivered goods =P; garden lamp

[L-R] Khmer-style (I think) spirit house; altar within e house; more family photos, including one of Pon's ordination as a novice monk

river

Siam to Grand Palace during morning rush hour without any traffic jams: skytrain from Siam to Saphan Taksin & changing to river taxi from Tha Sathon to Tha Chang

[L-R] solution to parking woes; morning rush hour at Tha Si Phraya, Chao Phraya River Express pier N3, which makes me think of e incident years back when a crowded pier packed with commuters during e morning crush collapsed into e river; last row of seats on e river taxi, just like on buses

[L-R] temple across e river on e Thonburi side; Wat Arun, which 4 of e families once climbed together ~18 years ago when Heidi was still shorter than me & had to be pulled up e steps =)

[L-R] suspension cables of Rama VIII bridge cutting across fellow diners on dinner cruise along Mae Naam Chao Phraya; Wat Arun by night
