Knights of Gloriana
Bristol Renaissance Faire
Kenosha, Wisconsin
1999
Why must the brightest flames burn
out the fastest? The Knights of
Gloriana (KOG) performed as a troupe for only one year – but oh what a year it
was.
The men and women of KOG were
determined to provide a “knightly” show without the gratuitous violence, blood,
and death that infects so many joust shows in the US today. A real Elizabethan tournament, with the emphasis
placed on honor and chivalry above all.
Gone was the good guy/bad guy theme,
replaced with the concept of six noble knights competing for the tourney
championship. Gone was the professional
wrestling moves and mentality, replaced with sportsmanship and good will.
The KOG show was developed to appeal
to the children, and to the child in all, and was an unqualified success. Unfortunately, a few "knowledgeable" show people could not understand a purely chivalric show - you had to have good guys and bad guys they said - and KOG went away before its time. May their like come soon again.
