Valda first arrived on Ramsay Street to try to make it in time for
Steph and
Marc’s
wedding, although with her ‘excellent’ timing, she managed to arrive just
after the revelation that Flick had been seeing
Marc. Her
doting like aunt qualities began to get on people’s nerves, so
Karl and
Susan offered her a place to stay. However, she and
her poodles, Blanche and Stella
, began to get on
their nerves too, so
Harold offered her a place to stay.
While staying at Harold’s,
Rosie tried to warn Valda off
Harold. However this lead to Valda thinking that
Harold
was gay, but to prove her wrong
Harold gave her a kiss. She continued to stay at
Harold’s for some time, but after discovering that her stamp collection may
be worth something, she set off on a mission to find out what they were
worth.
While she was away, Valda sent anonymous presents to members of the Scully
family. However, they always seem to come at the wrong time and so weren’t
accepted. It wasn’t until she sent them a portrait of herself that they
realised who they were from.
Valda returned to Erinsborough in 2003, and saved the day at the pub, when
Lou’s chef
quits. She soon takes over the position and Lou realises that he’s got to
keep her on as the takings have been up. She starts to do continental dishes
and sets up a different country for a different week. So far she’s done
Greek, Australian, and many more. Most recently Valda confessed to
Lou that she
is Lyn’s mother, but after being shouted at by
Joe about
not being close family, she ran off the street one night and no-one knows
where she went. Lyn was especially worried as when she had returned she
confessed that Andreas had dumped her and that she had no money left. Valda
was found a few day’s later by
Lou sleeping
on a park bench and suffering from hypothermia. Back in hospital and with
some gentle persuasion from
Lou she
prepared to tell Lyn that she was her mother. However
a home video sent to Lyn from her father Henry gave
the game away first.
Luckily for Valda, Lyn saw her side of the situation
and forgave her for what she did. As Lyn had never
known her real father, she was determined to find him, so with Valda’s help
they tracked him down and found he was in hospital. Seeing him brought back
many memories for Valda and she spent much of the rest of the day sitting on
the beach telling Lyn stories of her childhood.
Something which she very much enjoyed as she’d never been able to tell
anyone before. On their return, Valda confronted Henry
and told him that he’d had
no right to take her daughter away from him.
After becoming settled again, Valda was offered the job to work as a chef at
Desert Hearts Oasis, a retreat for famous people. However she never forgets
to pop back to Erinsborough every now and then to see her family. Most
recently she returned for the christening of her grandson
Oscar,
where she proudly became his godmother as well.
Valda has always had a thing for
Lou Carpenter
ever since she first arrived in the street. However, dispite the fact it was
obvious Lou
felt the same way, the two never actually managed to confess their feelings
for each other, however hard they tried. This was what made it even harder
for Valda when she found out
Lou and
Trixie were getting married. It didn't help the way she found out either!
Valda entered Lou's
Place in hope of seeing
Lou and while
at the bar begun to chat to Trixie. In just a matter of seconds the pair had
begun to discuss their love lives, both telling the other they had met a man
whom they cared for very much. It soon came out that they had both met their
men in the very same pub!
At that second
Lou entered the pub and greeted Trixie,
oblivious to the fact Valda had returned. Valda was shocked to see
Lou and
Trixie kiss and quickly made excuses to leave the
pub, before heading straight home to Ramsay Street. She was eventually
forced to accept Trixie and Lou's relationship,
albeit very unhappily. She even decided to go along to the Wedding, but as
it turned out she had a different reason to do so. As the ceremony was
taking place, the celebrant asked the usual question of whether anybody knew
of any reason why
Lou and Trixie should not be married. At that
moment, Valda stood up! She told
Lou that he
was a silly man for wanting to marry a gold-digger like
Trixie when he didn't even love her. She then
asked him to look her in the eye and say that she loved
Trixie
To Valda's dismay,
Lou did
exactly what she asked. This prompted Valda to run out of the church.in
tears, closely followed by the rest of the Scully family. Back at Number 26
she told Lyn she was once again going to leave
Erinsborough as she couldn't sand being aroundTrixie
and Lou. Nothing they could say would convince her stay. |
