RKS-CCV-III detail
The Filter I made has been installed for about 9 months, about 15,000 miles. It seems to be removing about 99% of the blow by oil from the crank case valve. The discharge hose from the filter has only a slight "dry mist" coating of residue after 15,000 miles. The drip leg of my filter has worked out well, the clear 3/4" tube let's you see how much oil the filter has collected, about 1/2 oz. of oil every 1000 miles or so. Removing a 1/2" pipe plug drains the drip leg into a paper towel-- pretty easy. The copper mesh has also worked out well, even in the winter. It does not freeze up, the heat of the motor and the air gaps of the of the mesh seems to let it drain back after the engine is shut off. The 3/4" I.D. nylon reinforced hose fits over 1/2" I.D. P.V.C. pipe for a tight fit. Special size holes had to be drilled into the 1 1/2" P.V.C. fittings to make the filter smaller and more compact. After these pictures were taken I spray painted the filter flat black to blend into the engine compartment better. Hope this information helps fellow club members. Let me know if there are any other questions or if you don't feel like taking the time to make your own. All comments welcome!
