Entertainment
Tonight's scoop on the big day... As a $20,000 fireworks display lit up the sky
Saturday night, some 200 guests cheered the new bride and groom. Hours earlier,
as Brad and Jennifer reportedly enjoyed pre-ceremony massages in beach side bungalows
owned by TV producer Marcy Carsey, their family and friends were preparing to
witness the one million dollar wedding ceremony. David Spade was the first celebrity
to arrive at Malibu High School -- the site where guests were told to park, before
they were transported via shuttle to the Malibu estate. Brad's 'Fight Club' co-star
Edward Norton showed up with Salma Hayek just past five p.m. Actor/director Peter
Berg followed, wearing a tan suit. David Schwimmer was the first "friend" to arrive
-- with girlfriend Mili Avital. David and Courteney Cox Arquette, Cameron Diaz
and Jared Leto, and Lisa Kudrow were also in attendance. Matthew Perry arrived
solo -- but quickly started a conversation with Brad's 'Meet Joe Black' co-star,
Claire Forlani. Matt Le Blanc was on location in Budapest and unable to make it
to the event. "Friends" executive producer Kevin Bright, sitcom director James
Burrows, Jon Lovitz, Francis McDormand, Kathy Najimy, and Aalan Cumming were also
on the couple's guest list. The final two celebs to arrive were Julie Cypher and
Melissa Etheridge -- whom ET has confirmed did perform for the newlyweds. Lanterns
decorated the trees and a string quartet played for guests upon their arrival.
White wedding program scrolls awaited everyone on their seats. At ten 'til six,
Jennifer's father, John Aniston, arrived in a black limo -- ready to walk his
daughter down the aisle. Two flower girls were eagerly anticipating their moment,
as a gospel choir prepared to sing. The bride's glowing smile was complemented
by her floor length, off white, satin silk gown by Milan-based American designer
Lawrence Steele. The 31-year-old chose to show off her toned shoulders, wearing
a pearl beaded gown with a plunging back, and a matching veil that cascaded down
her hair. Jennifer walked down the aisle dressed in ivory colored, suede, Manolo
Blahnik, high-heel sandals that were fitting for the much anticipated 6:30 p.m.
ceremony. The 36-year-old groom wore a slim black tie to compliment his tuxedo
designed by Christian Dior's Hedi Slimane. His white Stephanotis boutonniere matched
the cascades of flowers that hung from the lavish, arched trellis where the couple
finally said "I do." Brad's two groomsmen, including his best-man, brother Doug
Pitt, were clad in Prada, while Jennifer's bridesmaids, actress Andrea Bendewald
and writer/director Kristin Hahn, wore green, silk, chiffon slip dresses with
pale, taffeta mules. The couple spent an estimated $75,000 on flowers, which included
Jennifer's white rose and hydrangea bouquet and rose table settings. The wedding
rings were designed by Italian jeweler Silvia Damiani. Engraved with the names
"Brad" and "Jen" and the year "2000," the white gold bands hold 20 sterling white
diamonds. After the nuptials, Brad and Jennifer celebrated to the Isley brothers'
song "Love is a Wonderful Thing," and Joe Cocker's "You are so Beautiful." The
partying continued in the large white reception tent next door, where guests dined
on spinach pie along with a wide variety of caviar, prime rib and Maine lobsters.
Part of the reported one 100 thousand dollars spent on entertainment went to a
12-year-old Frank Sinatra impersonator, who sang "The Way You Look Tonight" at
Jennifer's request. A special lounging area for smoking was set up outside --
and nearby stood a trendy martini bar which featured specialty drinks like watermelon
and peach. A Don Perignon champagne toast was followed by dessert: a six tier
white confection decorated with flowers (from Rosebud Cakes). The evening came
to a close with the fifteen minute long fireworks spectacular, complete with red,
heart-shaped explosions. The wedding went off without a hitch and more than 50
security personnel made sure of it. It didn't matter how big a celebrity you were,
if you didn't have an exclusive invitation for the event, your stretch limousine
wouldn't even be allowed in the parking lot. In order to keep the paparazzi at
bay, security erected large balloons shaped like a clown and a cat that thoroughly
blocked any prying lenses. Every person who worked on the event was checked for
recording equipment. Word was sent out that certain tabloids would pay up to $10,000
for exclusive photos of the nuptials. Shortly before the event Pitt and Aniston's
representatives agreed to provide pool video feeds that media outlets could share.
An Entertainment Tonight producer was assigned to supervise one of the video feeds
allowing ET to have a special vantage point of the wedding. One of the main things
that the cameras caught was who was wearing what. Cameron Diaz looked terrific
in a black, below-the-knee cocktail dress that featured ruffled sleeves, accentuated
by a deep V neckline. Aniston's "Friends" co-star Courteney Cox Arquette chose
a pastel-blue dress and Lisa Kudrow wore a simple, black, sleeveless shift with
a matching black scarf. But Aniston blew away the fashion competition. Dressmaker
Steele tells ET Online, "I am flattered that Jennifer asked me to make her dress
and it was a pleasure to work with her."
