Meet the Goddess!

Sige
by

Sige is the Gnostic representation of the great silence from which life sprang forth. For me, Sige represents the feminine aspects of our existence—the intuitive knowledge, the seeking within, the inner life forces that are such a great part of our spirituality. Without seeking within, we would not know enlightenment. She is within each of us, She is the great silence that speaks so loudly to us. She is the silence from which our power comes. She is the silence from which our inspiration is born. She is.

Danu

Danu is the ancient Celtic great Mother Goddess. It is She from whom the birth waters spring forth, flooding us with nourishment, filling us with the essence of life. When I think of the Goddess, I see Danu. When I call out for comfort, for rejuvenation, it is Danu who answers. She was there in the beginning, and is there, still.

The Celtic tuath (tribe) that are her chosen people are the Tuatha de Danaan. The river Danube was named for Her, as well as other tributaries. She is known sometimes as Anu, Don, and Dana throughout what is now Western Europe. There is an Eastern goddess, Danu, who is also a Mother Goddess figure.

Hecate

Queen of witches, protectress of women, guardian of crossroads, defender of justice--Hecate is with us throughout our lives, enabling us to stand strong and face our challenges. Hecate is a Moon Goddess, diviner of truths, bestower of visions. She is associated with birth, death, and rebirth.

Hecate is a triple goddess--in her we honor Maiden, Mother and Crone. As the Maiden, she helps us experience new possibilities, allowing us to face things bravely and openly, yet not naively. As the Mother, she teaches us to stand on our own in the face of challenges, to learn from mistakes, to act with honor yet to give love and respect to others. As the Crone, Hecate imparts wisdom to us, guiding us to choose for ourselves the best course of action, teaching us to judge clearly what we must do, helping us to see death not as an ending, but as a step in the natural order of things. In each of these aspects, we gain strength, knowledge, security, and freedom. We honor Hecate at Samhain in her crone aspect as the wheel of the year turns toward the dark season.

The Three Norns

In Norse culture, the Triple Goddess was personified as the Three Norns. They represented the three fates, past, present, and future. They weave the fate of each of us at the time of birth. Their names are Urd, Verdanki, and Sculda. We cannot escape them, they are our destiny. We honor and respect them as the wise women, the eldersisters of time.
