Brigid

Brigid is a Celtic Goddess worshipped throughout many parts of Europe. In the Northern region, Brigid presided over wells and springs, and was the Goddess of the Forge, as well.
Brigid is portrayed as the Maiden of Fertility in the Celtic triad, yet she is considered a triple Goddess in her own right--because of her dominion over Fire, Healing, and Fertility/Inspiration. This version of a triple-aspect Goddess differs from the triple-aspect of the Goddesses Hecate and Cerridwen. Both Hecate and Cerridwen manifest as The Maiden, The Mother, or The Crone.
When Christianity took power in Celtic lands, Brigid was given sainthood--most likely because the people would not discontinue their worship for their ancient Goddess.
For me, Brigid is the fire of inspiration, the light of knowledge, the messenger of Spring. We celebrate Brigid at Imbolc, when the light returns and the land is once again fertile.
Blessing for Hearth-Keepers
by Caitlin Matthews
Brighid of the Mantle, encompass us,
Lady of the Lambs, protect us,
Keeper of the Hearth, kindle us.
Beneath your mantle, gather us,
And restore us to memory.
Mother of our mothers,
Foremothers strong,
Guide our hands in yours,
Remind us how
To kindle the hearth,
To keep it bright,
To preserve the flame.
Your hands upon ours,
Our hands within yours,
To kindle the light,
Both day and night.
The Mantle of Brighid about us,
The Memory of Brighid within us,
The Protection of Brighid keeping us
From harm, from ignorance, from heartlessness,
This day and night,
From dawn till dark,
From dark till dawn.

Boann is an Irish Goddess of water and fertility. In the Celtic triad, she represents the great Mother. She bestows poetic inspiration and spiritual insight, and it is from her that the waters flow. She is present in all rivers, which is symbolic of her releasing of the waters from the great well of the Otherworld.
Cerridwen

A Welsh Triple Goddess, Cerridwen embodies the three lunar aspects of the Goddess--Maiden, Mother and Crone because she represents transformation. We identify Cerridwen by her great Cauldron of Inspiration, Wisdom, and Rebirth. The cauldron is an ancient feminine symbol of renewal and rebirth, symbolizing the womb of the Great Goddess from which all things spring forth. We primarily honor Cerridwen in her Crone aspect because of the wisdom contained within her cauldron, and thus is she portrayed in the Celtic triad.

The Triple Goddess is represented here by Brigid as the Maiden of Fertility, Boann as the Mother, and Cerridwen the Crone with her Cauldron of Transformation. Three faces of the great Goddess, three phases of life for women, each with a distinct purpose and strength.
