Chapter 1 The Friends He Left Behind

Kagome sat in the dimly lit room. She looked at the Shikon Jewel in her hand. It was strange, it seemed like only the other day it was shattered into billions of pieces by Kagome. She had to say, her archery skills had grown better since then, though that didn’t count much for her grades in the modern world…not that it mattered to her anymore. She hadn’t gone back there in a while…she wondered whether her parents missed her…A sigh issued from her mouth as she looked up at the ceiling. When they were in the final battles and quests against Naraku there wasn’t much about the modern world that really concerned her…

She got up and walked outside, the moon was already out and the sky was littered with stars…the stars were always clearer in this time…the moon always shone more brightly here. Ever since Inuyasha disappeared after that final swing towards Naraku, Kagome had been doing this a lot…wondering whether he was all right, and where he was. She sat on the ground outside the house, hugging her legs to her and looked up at the sky once more…

Sango and Miroku sat on a hill, overlooking the village they were to stay at…They had snuck out in the middle of the night to sit on the hill, together. During the last month, when they had to endure the final rounds, the final quests, the final battles, against Naraku they had grown closer and discovered their true feelings toward each other. Each had accepted the other’s love…They looked up at the moon, the one moon that they always knew. They worried, they worried about Inuyasha, wondering where he was…wondering if he was alright. They worried about Kagome, wondering whether she would be all right, after the disappearance of Inuyasha. They glanced at each other, a slight smile upon their faces as they turned their gaze back upon the night sky above…

Shippou sat on Kirara as they wandered around the forests. Shippou rode upon Kirara’s back, since she was in her full grown form. Shippou looked around, wondering whether they would ever find the one they were seeking. Sure, Inuyasha was a jerk, arrogant, big headed, and all that stuff. But, Inuyasha was like an older brother to him, almost. When he disappeared Shippou took it upon himself to track Inuyasha down with Kirara and drag him back to Kagome. Everyone knows how close he and Kagome and gotten on the final month, as he called it. Everyone knew it, and everyone was hoping for a happy life for them after the fighting was over, but when he disappeared, high hopes quickly plummeted to the ground.

“Kirara…I don’t think we’ll ever find Inuyasha…” Shippou said unhappily. “I mean, we’ve been searching for days…how much more longer and farther do we have to look?” Kirara stared at the ground, as she padded along the dirt and twigs. She stopped and glanced to one side. Shippou looked too. “What’s that? Lets go see.” Shippou said, quietly.

They headed towards a small something, it looked kind of like a statue…or something. When they came up to it they found it was a small rock temple, just a small one, crudely made, but it was nice, in its own way. Shippou jumped off Kirara’s back and looked at the letter scratched into it and memories flooded into Shippou’s mind.

They had met Kikyo in the forest with Inuyasha. They seemed to be talking about something. When they arrived, though, they stopped talking instantly. Kikyo was looking at Kagome in a strange way and Kagome looked like she didn’t know what to do. There was nothing but an awkward silence that followed. Just as Inuyasha was about to say something the demons attacked.

It was a close situation. Naraku’s hoards of demons were attacking from every direction, forcing them out of the forest and into the nearby clearing. Inuyasha was to take care of most of them, but it seemed like they would never stop coming. Miroku and his Wind Tunnel were injured and it was up to Sango to protect him from. Shippou and Kirara had paired up to fight as well. Kagome was left to fight alone, using her bow and arrows to fell the great demons that attacked. Kikyo too was helping, which surprised many of the gang. She used her arrows to destroy the demons as well, though her mind seemed to be on other matters.

It was a long and hard battle, the demons were relentless and seemed to keep coming, no matter how many they killed. That’s when one demon saw Kagome, her back was turned from it, and all the others were busy attacking demons and none of them were within range of saving the girl. Well, there was that priestess, but there was something inhuman about her. The demon quickly made up its mind to attack, to kill. This was a fire demon and could issue fire from its mouth and started to build up the flames silently. He then let the flames fire at Kagome, with a large bang.

It seemed like everything was going in slow motion. When they heard the bang everyone started to turn to see who was being fired at. Kagome turned, her eyes wide in fright as she saw the oncoming fire blast. Inuyasha started running towards her, but it seemed like it would be too late. That’s when someone ran in front of Kagome, hands out stretched. The blast hit the person and she fell to the ground, knocking over Kagome. Inuyasha was enraged and destroyed the demon quickly. He then ran to Kagome, and Kikyo.

Kikyo had made up her mind. She would die. Inuyasha loved Kagome and if she couldn’t have his love, if she couldn’t get it back after all this time then she should die…she should die. She will let Inuyasha have his happy life with Kagome…She saw him standing over her, his eyes worried.

“Kikyo? Kikyo! Are you all right? Kikyo! No, get up!” Inuyasha yelled.

“Inuyasha…you love Kagome more than me…right?” Inuyasha blushed, so did Kagome. “You said…so back in the forest…I’ll let you be happy…Inuyasha…I’ll let you be with Kagome…protect her…protect her like you did me…” And that was her last breath before she left the world, a second time.

Shippou wiped away a tear as he remembered. He used to hate Kikyo but when she did that…it just made him like her more. Nobody knew what happened to Kikyo’s body after that but it became clear to Shippou that Inuyasha properly buried her. He looked up at Kirara.

“Kirara, we have to find Inuyasha. Kikyo wanted Inuyasha to be happy, she wanted him to be with Kagome. Inuyasha defeated Naraku for Kagome. We should find him…and quickly.” Kirara nodded and Shippou clamored onto her back. “Lets go!”
